On-Call Psychiatrist

Nexus-Woodbourne is seeking a On-Call Psychiatrist.

Position Summary:   

We are looking for part-time availability, 6-8 hours a week.  Hybrid work environment (WFH & Office) - no rounding required!

Develop and manage the treatment program of each client under their care to ensure that services are delivered according to the applicable individual treatment plan and the strengths, preferences, and needs of the patient. Manage medications in consultation with the client and legal guardian, adjusting as needed to ensure their effective treatment of diagnostic symptoms. Assist the medical department by giving orders for medical emergencies and safety interventions and ensuring proper medical follow-up with individuals involved in emergency safety interventions.

Nexus-Woodbourne Family Healing is part of Nexus Family Healing, a national nonprofit network of mental health agencies with over 50 years of restoring hope for thousands of children and families through outpatient/community mental health services, foster care, adoption, and residential treatment.

Primary responsibilities:

Respond to emergencies in the absence of staff psychiatrists assigned to the case.

Provide emergency consultation by phone with Agency staff concerning management of emergency situations; remain calm in stressful and emergency situations using sound judgement. Adapt and adjust easily to the changing needs of the business; demonstrate flexibility and ability to shift and address multiple priorities and ensure appropriate staffing levels. Assist nurses with evaluating clients in crisis situations and give verbal orders for medication administration restraint or seclusion as seclusion as needed.  Consult with other physicians, psychiatrists, and nurses regarding follow-up with medical or psychiatric concerns; demonstrate the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work among team members.

If additional psychiatric coverage for the primary psychiatrist is needed during the week, guide the treatment team and implement the treatment plan for each client you are assigned.

Responsible in admissions for determining the applicant’s suitability to benefit from treatment at the Agency. Review admissions materials on clients to plan for medication and medical. Provide direct psychiatric services (evaluation, consultation, medication management, psychotherapy) to assigned clients and their families. Conduct regular reviews of clients’ medications to determine adequacy of prescription. Consult with other physicians, psychiatrists, and nurses regarding follow-up with medical or psychiatric concerns; demonstrate the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work among team members. Authorize and/or refer patients for medical, neurological, or psychological consultation, when indicated, to appropriate resources. Responsible for determining whether a patient meets criteria for discharge and/or has obtained maximum treatment benefits.

Ensure the documentation is made for all clinical examinations, including the psychiatric examination, and progress notes.

Complete documentation of all medical and psychiatric services as required by policies, licensing and regulatory/accreditation standards. Collaborate with the Quality Improvement and Clinical Departments regarding the Electronic Health Record (EHR) by inputting, monitoring, and revising documentation.

Participate in staff and supervision meetings and required Agency in-service

Ensure confidentiality of all treatment and services information

Required Education and Licensure:

M.D. degree and Board-eligible in Child Psychiatry Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements

Preferred Education and Experience:

Board-certified preferred Previous experience supporting youth in a residential setting
