Pay Range

$87,450 - $108,564 Annually


This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Job Description

We have an opening for an Office Administrator. You will perform a wide variety of jobs related to Laboratory business, operations, and organizational functions. This will include personnel/workforce administration/management, administrative operations, business development, regulatory and compliance activities. As an integral member of an interdisciplinary team, you will support NNSA and other sponsors by assessing international nuclear security problems, formulating strategic approaches to reduce risk, and implementing nuclear security initiatives. This position reports to the Global Materials Security Program within the Global Security Principal Directorate’s Nuclear Threat Reduction (N) Program.

In this role you will

Assess business, operational and organizational requirements and deliverables and develop, approve, and implement administrative and operational activities.Participate in planning, decision-making, and development of administrative processes for the work unit.Manage on-site programmatic reviews, quarterly reporting, and proposal submissions. Assist with off-site program reviews as directed by NNSA Headquarters.Examine documentation to verify compliance with policies, ensuring consistency within the work unit or functional area. Contribute to assessing whether the work unit adheres to established policies, procedures, methods, and practices, and assist in implementing corrective actions to achieve compliance.Research, analyze, establish and implement internal administrative procedures and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of administrative operations.Gather, verify, and analyze business, operational, and organizational planning data to support strategic and workforce planning initiatives.May assist with tracking budgets and expenditures, working closely with program leaders and resource manager.Supervise LLNL subcontracted staff support.Serve as a backup for logistic coordinator.Ability to travel domestically and internationally.Capability to use a rental car during travel.Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience coordinating administrative and operational work activities and multi-faceted internal processes for the work unit and/or functional area.Experience participating in business, operational and/or organizational activities.Experience working on organizational projects with the ability to understand, interpret, and apply related policies and procedures. Demonstrated effective leadership and team-building skills.Understanding of basic principles of personnel administration, policies and procedures and of HR compliance requirements for personnel administration (FLSA, ADA, EEO, etc.).Effective analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills necessary to independently advise, resolve, recommend and approve appropriate actions to implement solutions.Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact, discretion, and mature judgment.Experience leading administrative projects effectively and ability to understand, interpret, and apply operational related policies and procedures; advanced organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through.Advanced knowledge of personal computers and associated software including MS Office applications and experience developing complex reports for use in management decision making.Knowledge of international travel policies and processes.This position requires a valid California driver’s license.

Qualifications We Desire

Associate of Arts (AA) degree in a relevant field.Broad and in-depth knowledge of Laboratory business, operations, and program/discipline organizations; demonstrated knowledge of external organizations at the local, State and National levels. Additional Information

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.  If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. 

Pre-Employment Drug Test

External applicant(s) selected for this position must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Per the Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Depending on your job duties, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where you are not permitted to have a personal and/or laboratory mobile device in your possession.  This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.  

If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas.  Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
