Occupational Therapist Assistant, COTA - Acute Rehab Unit

Description:

The occupational therapist assistant assists the occupational therapist in carrying out a patient’s established plan of care. The occupational therapist assistant assumes the responsibility and accountability for administering treatment modalities, exercises, and procedures as determined by the plan of care established by an occupational therapist and in accordance with the State of Michigan Public Health Code Act 368 of 1978, in addition to established facility and departmental policies and procedures. The occupational therapist assistant works cooperatively with the patient’s team personnel in maintaining standards of professional practice and interdisciplinary teamwork to maintaining the highest degree of quality care.

What the COTA will need:

Must be a graduate from an occupational therapy assisting program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).Required: Associate’s Degree.State of Michigan Occupational Therapist Assistant License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire date.American Heat Association BLS or equivalent.

What the COTA will do:

The occupational therapist assistant assists the occupational therapist in carrying out a patient’s established plan of care. The occupational therapist assistant assumes the responsibility and accountability for administering treatment modalities, exercises, and procedures as determined by the plan of care.Utilizes a variety of modalities as appropriate to enhance patient progress. Instructs patients in varying programs appropriate to enhance performance and cultivate progress toward occupational therapy goals.Establishes an effective rapport with patients; interacts with them in a considerate and supportive manner. Responds to questions appropriately while providing adequate and accurate explanations.Communicates with and educates patients and their families regarding plan of care, home equipment recommendations, considerations for additional rehab, discharge planning, home exercise program, self-administered treatments, and family assistance.Remains well-informed of developments in Occupational Therapy; incorporates approved developments into clinical practice when applicable and appropriate.
