Job Description Summary:

Employee is responsible for home infusion and enteral referral intake. Intake coordinator will work closely with MCIS nursing case managers in all aspects of patient care regarding home infusion and enteral therapy. Coordinator will oversee new referral intake and processing. Intake coordinator will be responsible for patient entry including but not limited to insurance coverage and verification, verifying and entering correct patient information and communicating with patients regarding deliveries as needed. Employee will be under the general supervision of the Director of MCIS and the Pharmacy Manager. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for receiving and entering new infusion and enteral referrals.Works closely with MCIS nursing case management to process new referral intake, order changes, including duration of therapy on new and existing patients. Reports the changes to RN case managers and pharmacists so changes can be implemented.  Responsible for verifying patient data including but not limited to DOB, logistics, insurance information and diagnosis codes. Verifies proof of patient contact in order to provide patient updates as needed.Responsible for obtaining patient authorizations on both new and current patients and contacting physician’s offices for clarifications of therapy durations. The intake coordinator will have full responsibility for daily updates and processing of faxed referrals and entries and for tasking each entry in the Brightree software system.Communicates with MCIS billing managers, RN case managers, and pharmacists regarding any clinical or financial issues that may occur with a potential new referral or an existing patient. Intake Coordinator will document all physician and patient contact and communications in Brightree progress notes to provide patient updates and proof of communication with patients and caregivers.  Intake coordinator is required to maintain proficiency in all aspects of Brightree as it pertains to the parameters of the coordinator duties and responsibilities regarding patient intake.Works with MCIS and MCMP delivery techs and delivery manager as needed to coordinate patient deliveries.Must work directly with other departments within and outside the organization such as discharge planning, home health, hospice, and physician offices regarding new and existing referrals.Markets to both existing and potential referral sources for both IV services and enteral services. Handles patient billing inquiries as needed and coordinates responses with the pharmacy manager, billing manager and RN case managers.Communicates with pharmacists and nursing case managers on any patient related infusion or enteral issues and assist on-call personnel, nurses or family members regarding any problems that may arise during normal business hours.Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Skills and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of enteral nutrition and infusion therapy reimbursement requirements are preferred.At least one year infusion case management experience in home infusion or DME related claims.Ability to comprehend and interpret policies and regulations.Familiarity with Medicare, TennCare, and private insurance regulations.Ability to use personal computer, word processing, medical records, and billing software.Ability to coordinate software upgrades and implementation.Ability to work independently and prioritize workload to meet numerous deadlines and goals.

EXPERIENCE:

Two to three years’ experience in home infusion therapy including new referral intake, inventory control and patient home delivery. Must be familiar with infusion therapy and ancillary devices associated with home infusion delivery and administration systems. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough understanding of home infusion therapy and various medicationsThorough understanding of home infusion therapy administration devices.Thorough knowledge of ancillary supplies such as central and peripheral IV lines and supplies and equipment relevant to patient IV administration in the home setting.
