PAY RATE: $21.55 - $22.20 


POSITION SUMMARY:  

Working out of our two Agency sites in San Francisco and Oakland, the nutrition assistant will help Project Open Hand succeed by providing support to the registered dietitians in delivering nutrition education, healthy meals and engagement to our clients.  

This position is ideal for an independent worker passionate about food and nutrition. They should feel comfortable and be compassionate for a variety of clients from varying socioeconomic groups dealing with critical illness in the community. This position will require an individual that has excellent technical and computer skills with the aptitude to learn nutrient and recipe software. Organizational skills will be essential.  

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

2 years of nutrition education experience or Certified Nutrition AssistantAbility to work Saturdays and occasional eveningsWorking knowledge of Word, Excel and Power PointFood Handling Certificate (or equivalent)

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: 

Experience with presenting to groupsProficient in or possess the aptitude for Nutrition software programsBasic cooking skillsExcellent communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with clients, volunteers and staff.Ability to work with minimum supervisionBilingual Spanish or Cantonese a plus

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Assist in preparing materials used in presenting current nutrition instruction to clients, interns, staff or outside groupsExecute nutrition classes to congregate meals sites under the supervision of the RDAssist with nutrient analysis of recipes and menus.Coordinate the publishing of monthly menus for Wellness Programs and the Community Nutrition Programs to ensure accuracy and timelinessResponsible for coordination of monthly menus and ensuring distribution in a timely mannerOrganize, coordinate interns/volunteers and execute food and nutrition demonstrations in wellness centerOrganize and create cooking demonstration videos for clients and POH websiteEngage with Wellness Program clients via phone to introduce them to nutrition services and schedule clients with registered dietitians. Communicate any client feedback and nutrition concerns cultivated from client callsCoordinate interns and volunteers in executing food and nutrition activities in the wellness centerCoordinates the process for quality assurance for meal line to ensure accurate portion size and foods to meet established dietary guidelines of the agency.Will be part of the nutrition services team to move forward goals of targeted and effective nutrition and food education by increasing the engagement of our clients and volunteersManage the tracking and documentation of educational activity unitsAssists RD in food safety and sanitation education for kitchen staffOffsite Nutrition Education as assignedOther duties as assigned
