Nurse Clinician

What you'll do The Nurse Clinician, Endocrine, functions as a team member of the Endocrine Division and the Medical Clinic, delivering nursing care to patients with endocrine related diseases. The position acts as expert resource in the field of endocrinology, performs assessments, direct patient care, triages patients, contributes to the education of the family, community and nurses in the outreach as appropriate, and participates in medical and nursing research as indicated. The Nurse Clinician works closely with supervisor and division chief, on such issues as quality assurance, updates policies, procedures and therapy plan yearly along with equipment ordering when and if necessary. This individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This individual must demonstrate the ability to assess date reflective of the patients' status, identify each patient's requirements relevant to his or her specific needs, and provide appropriate care. Collects patient health data and reviews with physician as appropriate as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation Performs prior authorizations on medications ordered by providers 100% of the time Conducts/coordinates outpatient diagnostic tests/treatments/injections/procedures according to established protocols as noted by nursing supervisor Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures, 100% of the time, as measured by random supervisory chart review Performs and documents Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures, with no more than 1 exception per year Analyzes assessment date in determining diagnosis. Coordinates any necessary follow-up care as observed by supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation Identifies expected outcomes individualized to patient as measured by supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation Provides appropriate patient and family teaching support Identifies expected outcomes individualized to patient Provides nursing staff assistance in Medical Clinic when schedule permits Explains treatments and procedures and answers patient questions as observed by nursing supervisor Participates in the selection and ordering of patient teaching materials. Advises modification of self-care within the treatment plan and refers to physicians as necessary as measured by supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation Receives phone inquiries from patients, identifying issues and concerns and the need for appropriate intervention as observed by supervisor Calls patients post-procedure to obtain information about the success of the procedure and to offer support and education regarding expected outcomes Instructs new clinic nurses on specifics of endocrinology practice such that new nurses are able to achieve self-sufficiency within 5-6 months as observed by endocrine physicians and nursing supervisor Functions as an endocrinology information resource for Medical Clinic and other staff as necessary, as observed by nursing supervisor and division chief Works to arrange 1-2 in-services per year on endocrinology related topics, as measured by staff in-service logs Aids with orientation schedules for new nurses and staff through endocrinology, as necessary, monitoring progress and reporting any issues to nursing supervisor within 1-2 days of issues as observed by nursing supervisor Works closely with supervisor and Division Chief, functions as a key member of the Endocrinology Team Set an example in work performance and team building attitudes, concern for patients and support of clinicians by maintaining a positive interpersonal attitude and demeanor, as observed by nursing supervisor and division manager Completes project work and ad hoc assignments within 1-2 days of requested time frame, communicating to manager if time frame revision is needed, as observed by manager Works with nursing supervisor and division manager to assure compliance with all outside accrediting and regulatory agency codes and standards, as observed by nursing supervisor and manager Works directly with nursing supervisor, division manager and division chief to implement Quality Assurance/Risk Management activities and practices, as observed by manager Provides teaching and consultation services to nurses, other health professionals, community health providers, and participates in public education, as time permits Presents educational programs to nurses, students, and other staff members to improve knowledge of the care of endocrinology patients. Participates on educational activities of other departments and community programs Conducts and coordinates patient education or displays, as necessary. Participates in research projects under the direction of the Division Chief, where applicable Assists Divisional Manager with financial accountability including oversight of equipment ordering and maintenance processes and department billing Is knowledgeable in correct billing methods, ensuring clinic sheets are completed correctly with 90-95% accuracy rate Ensures that supplies are ordered in the most cost-effective manner possible, alerting manager of potential budget overages within 1-2 days of order, as observed by manager Meets mandatory requirements Provides proof of current BLS / ACLS validation to nursing supervisor. (To achieve excellence, one must do this in a proactive, timely manner prior to due date) Provides nursing supervisor evidence of completion of annual education and competency assessments with the previous calendar year Participates in 20-30 hours of educational activity related to job function annual and provides documented evidence to attendance or activity to nursing supervisor Demonstrates clinical problem-solving ability through written exemplar, patient/family feedback, co-workers report or direct supervisory observation Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager What we need from you Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred All RN's hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN’s licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement.
