Nuclear Medicine Technician II- PET CT (On Call)
Description: Job Summary:

Under the direction of Nuclear Medicine Physician prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Utilizing efficient and safe processes performs related technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care. Train, orient Nuclear Medicine Technologists.
In Kaiser Permanente locations where in-house dual mode Positron Emission Technology and Computerized Tomography (PET-/CT) is available, and the CT component is used for diagnostic purposes (in conjunction with the PET/CT exam and not to be used as stand-alone CT), one of the following certifications is also required:State of California Certified Technologist , Nuclear Medicine (RHN), AND A post primary CT certification from the American  Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-(CT)) , OR Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification  Board NMTCB(CT)
NOTE: ARRT-(CT) OR NMTCB-(CT) certification within 6 months of the dual mode PET-JCT equipment becoming available for use. This position applies only to Santa Clara, Roseville, Walnut Creek, San Leandro and Oakland.



Essential Responsibilities:


As prescribed by Physician, performs diagnostic studies on patients, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce appropriately diagnostic images
Under the general supervision of the Physician, prepares PET radiopharmaceuticals, calculates doses, and administers doses.
Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors. Checks and ensures accurate calibration of equipment.
Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.

Train and orient PETCT Technologist.

Performs other related duties as necessary.
Operates PET radiopharmaceutical infusion system and performs calibration, quality control, troubleshooting malfunctions, and makes minor repairs, arranging for repairs as needed.

Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT) for blood glucose levels and GFR including quality control of glucometer used for POCT.

Performs PET/CT Simulation for radiation therapy planning.
Knowledge of adjunct medications, their contraindications, and given in conjunction with PET/CT exams.

Knowledge of techniques exposure factors kVp, mA, slice thickness, pitch.

Knowledge of intravenous and oral contrast administration including indications, contraindications.

Check labs, medication, allergies creatinine, GFR, BUN, metformin, insulin.

Grade 921 

Basic Qualifications: Experience

Minimum three (3) years experience in nuclear medicine.
Education
A S. degree, or graduate of a JRCNMT accredited nuclear medicine program. License, Certification, Registration Basic Life Support
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certificate from Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
Additional Requirements:
Must meet all requirements of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist II. Must have State of California Certified Technologist , Nuclear Medicine, (RHN). Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Nuclear Medicine (ARRT (N)), and/or be certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT). Demonstrated ability to perform all procedures and processes as determined by the employer Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to individuals and groups with varying knowledge of Nuclear Medicine services. Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
