Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Nuclear Medicine, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for safely performing nuclear medicine procedures to aid in accurately diagnosing disease or injury. **A caregiver in this position works days, 8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm + on-call shifts.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Perform nuclear medicine imaging including total body acquisition, tomographic, and gated topographic acquisition. + Perform computer processing of data including dynamic curve calculations, three-dimensional reconstruction, planar and tomographic ejection fraction, cardiac bullseyes, and region ratios. + Schedule patients for procedures, correlating exams with other departments when necessary. + Utilize NRC guidelines and State of Ohio regulations, assist qualified physicians in administering radiation treatments and completes all documentation including bioassay of technologist and physician. + Perform dose calculation of radiopharmaceutical to ensure proper dose for each patient. + Consult with Radiologist to determine the best procedure for individual patients. + Educate patients about the procedure to be done. + Process and record examination results in a timely and accurate manner. + Confer with physicians about the results of examinations. + Provide education to various medical personnel about nuclear medicine procedures and radiation safety practices. + Attend relevant meetings and seminars and reviews current literature to stay current with new equipment and procedures. + Perform quality control procedures on nuclear medicine equipment to monitor performance of equipment. + Oversee maintenance of equipment such as performing regular calibrations to facilitate maintaining quality performance. + Work continually to anticipate and exceed the needs and expectations of customers. + Provide supervision and feedback to students as they perform procedures. + Review images with students on request and provides quarterly evaluations of students to clinical instructions for formal reviews. + Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Successful completion of Nuclear Medicine program approved by American Medical Association. + Current license in the State of Ohio. Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and/or Certification from Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board. + Maintain competencies specific to patient population served. + Working knowledge of computer systems and applications.
