Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Night Shift Locomotive Operator for our Servtex quarry located in New Braunfels, TX.

What You'll Get To Do
The Locomotive Operator position is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of trains, courteous and professional interaction with customers and tenants. This position consists of physically intensive work required to operate a train. The Train Crew are responsible for the operation of the train, placement of train cars, the makeup and breakdown of cuts of cars along track, and planning for appropriate movements of cars while optimizing efficient operation.This position is required to perform duties as a switchman and locomotive operator in a safe and efficient manner. Will be required to perform daily inspections of locomotives and rail vehicles as needed.Conduct the movement of rail cars and train movements.Operate track switches.Read and understand the operating rules, train orders, safety instructions and other written or printed material.Prepare required daily reports.Inspect the condition of the train and equipment in movement and while stationary.Coupling air connections between rail cars and locomotives when making up trains.Follow the company’s safety and quality instructions to avoid accidents and prevent injuries.Perform rail operation such as climbing rail cars, releasing hand brakes, coupling and uncoupling hair hoses from rail cars, and calculating right distance to move and stop rail cars following all safety procedures.
What We Are Looking ForMinimum of 3 years railroad certified locomotive operations preferred.Switching and yard service experience.Line-haul operations with good understanding of locomotive and train air brake systems and train handling techniques.Knowledgeable and conversant with standard railroad operating and safety rules and practices.Must be a self-starting, team player capable of working with minimal supervision and with other team members.Ability to read, interpret data, and follow instructions. Requires ability to walk, climb and stand in an industrial or railroad environment, including uneven surfaces, such as ballast.
