Neonatal educators are master’s or doctoral prepared RN’s (preferred CNS) who, through study and supervised practice at the graduate level, have become experts in theory and practice of neonatal or women’s health, with a focus on perinatal nursing.  Responsibilities of the RN Educator/CNS include fostering continuous quality improvement in nursing care, developing and educating staff to provide evidence-based care, mentoring and team building, leadership of multidisciplinary teams, case management of high-risk perinatal patients and research.  The RN Educator/CNS models expert nursing practice and serves as a consultant to the unit and applies and promotes evidence-based nursing practice.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Nursing
Minimum Experience Five (5) years NICU experience in a Level 3-4 NICU Nursery
Required Registration/License/Certification Registered Nursing License BLS NRP
Preferred Education Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Certification
Preferred Experience NICU Educator Experience
Preferred Registration/License/Certification Certification in specialty NRP Instructor
