The NIBRS Data Specialist uses a wide variety of records data systems in support of the operations of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. This position creates and maintains crime related records. The incumbent provides quality assurance by classifying and coding complex crime reports. This position requires collaboration with team members to resolve questions regarding unusual reports and/or circumstances. The incumbent interacts extensively with law enforcement officers, the courts, prosecuting attorneys, and jail management staff. The position is located in the Ada County Center for Data Analytics & Intelligence at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
SHIFT INFORMATION
This position typically works 8 hour days, Monday thru Friday.

Essential Functions
+ Reads and interprets law enforcement officers’ reports to gather and enter proper information for the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) and agency crime analyses;
+ Reviews and enters information on arrests, case status, warrant notices, and field interviews from law enforcement officers, the courts, prosecuting attorneys, and jail management staff;
+ Enters and maintains information on Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted (LEOKA);
+ Coordinates with patrol officers, patrol supervisors and the courts to ensure the completeness of individual records;
+ Notifies law enforcement personnel of any adjustments and/or corrections to be made to any reports;
+ Provides support to police officers regarding their reporting questions and concerns;
+ Maintains accuracy of information for tracking stolen vehicles, stolen property and runaway juveniles;
+ Performs regular system audits to maintain data integrity, ensures that documentation for file audits is complete and available in a timely fashion, and downloads NIBRS data to the Idaho NIBRS Repository;
+ Performs record searches on internal and external computer databases;
+ Analyzes the scope of use of records systems, and makes recommendations for future enhancement;
+ Submits and/or enters record files to the state repository; and
+ Performs related duties as required.
Job Requirements
+ Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
+ Knowledge of legal terminology and state and national crime reporting standards preferred;
+ Knowledge of Sheriff’s Office and police department procedures preferred;
+ Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling;
+ Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office functions;
+ Skill in performing customer service;
+ Skill in organizing and accurately accomplishing work within limited timeframes;
+ Skill in communicating with culturally diverse populations;
+ Ability to research, investigate and maintain data with a high degree of accuracy;
+ Maintain confidentiality through policy and procedure;
+ Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; and
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, law enforcement personnel, and the public.
Other Requirements:
+ Must pass an oral examination, polygraph examination, credit and background check prior to hire;
+ This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
+ Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
+ May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;
+ Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
