The Data Steward is responsible for applying data management principles, following governance guidelines, and understanding data holdings to manage and improve NGA’s data. This role involves reviewing, approving, and managing data to meet broad customer requirements, with a focus on geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) data. The Data Steward will facilitate effective data production and storage by aligning NGA’s processes with governance requirements, leveraging data workflow technologies, and ensuring the application of security controls.

Responsibilities

As an NGA Data Steward (Database Specialist II) at Woolpert, you will be tasked with: 

Data management and governance:Implement data management principles and governance guidelines to oversee and manage data holdings, ensuring they meet customer requirementsAlign organizational data processes with governance requirements, using workflow technologies to streamline and improve data management practicesEnsure data production and storage processes align with governance requirements, including data sharing and metadata creation/maintenanceData categorization, documentation and ontology maintenance:Categorize data logically, document relationships between data categories, and maintain ontology, such as data dictionary names and data integrity rulesMaintain and update the ontology, including data dictionaries and integrity rules, to ensure consistency and accuracySecurity and compliance oversight:Ensure the application of appropriate security controls and conformance to data policies, standards, and legal or regulatory requirementsData quality and usability improvement:Continuously evaluate the current state of data and implement methods to improve data quality, usability, and availabilityAdvocacy and training:Advocate for best practices in data management, providing training and support to stakeholders to foster a culture of data excellenceWork with customers and partners to qualify all data management metrics across the data lifecyclePerformance improvement and solution development:Identify data-related performance improvements in the current architecture, services, workflows, and related capabilitiesDocument requirements, provide mission-focused justification, and develop or integrate solutions to enhance the baseline and deliver more effective operational supportMission focused and mission critical requirements determination:Conduct requirements determination to enable immediate and future database improvements for operational support enhancing effectivenessAd hoc technical tasks:Execute customer engagement, training, and support as neededCoordinate with analysts, scientists, and working groups to ensure data initiatives meet mission objectivesHost, organize, and coordinate technical exchange meetings with customers, partners, and data providers to ensure alignment and collaboration Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

U.S. citizenshipActive Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearanceWillingness to undergo a pre-employment background check and drug screeningTwo (2) to four (4) years of geospatial experienceExperience working on site at NGAGEOINT data experienceExtensive knowledge of Esri ArcGIS software and capabilities:Two (2) years of experience using ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) or ArcGIS ProTwo (2) years of experience using ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS, or ArcGIS Online (AGOL)Attention to detail and proven experience meeting data quality assurance and accuracy standardsStrong organizational, time management, and analytical skillsAbility to work independently, collaboratively as part of a team, and as a member of a large organizationAbility to offer constructive feedback and problem solving, as well as clear direction to support goals

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong understanding of data management principles, governance, and security standardsExperience with data categorization, ontology maintenance, and improving data qualityAbility to work closely with customers, providing training and support on data management best practicesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify performance improvements optimize data workflows and develop solutionsExperience hosting and coordinating meetings with stakeholders and data providers
