Description
Under direct supervision, maintain and monitor day-to-day city-wide network operation, server performance, and perform corrective action as required, or notify supervisor(s) of alarms and failures. Assist in network and datacenter troubleshooting and problem resolution. Coordinate within the IT department network upgrades, patches, and modifications. Assist in planning large scale projects working closely with assigned IT Department team members. Assist Chief Information Security Officer and Project Manager as required in their efforts. Participate in establishment of policies, procedures and associated training for network resource administration, security controls and disaster recovery. Monitor and test network performance and create reports. Implement and enforce network security controls and DR processes. Assist in ordering new server and hardware. Perform daily storage administration, maintenance and monitoring functions. Assist IT leadership in building a sustainable cloud strategy.
Principal Duties
+ Establish the networking environment by designing system configuration, directing system installation and defining, documenting and enforcing system standards.
+ Undertake capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centers.
+ Apply server operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes. Manage and maintain city-wide anti-virus program, cyber security training, and phishing campaign.
+ Manage and deploy switches, routers, and wireless access points.
+ Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords in Active Directory.
+ Manage network printer installation and driver maintenance.
+ Manage Active Directory DNS and DHCP settings.
+ Manage server room rack organization and cable layout.
+ Build, test, and deploy server hardware.
+ Maintain an advanced level of expertise in the operation of Microsoft networks to include the installation and upgrading of operating system software through self-study and formal continuing education.
+ Provision, monitor, and maintain virtual machines in the City’s VMware environment.
+ Provide assistance in evaluating and analyzing new network software, hardware, and communication equipment.
+ Responsible for testing new software and/or hardware from third party applications, as well as, administering and providing third-party applications support.
+ Responsible for the creation and maintenance of internal procedural documentation regarding processes, network mapping, and network configurations.
+ Participate in the maintenance of procedures for disaster recovery, usage, and network administration.
+ Provide assistance in finding potential problems with network architecture/design and reporting for further investigation.
+ Provide helpdesk support for network issues and respond to requests for IT support.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and one (1) year of experience; or Associate’s Degree in related field and three (3) years of experience in server, storage and network management; or industry certifications and the equivalent combination of education and technical training experience in server, storage and network management. Knowledge of computer wide area networks (WAN)/local area network (LAN) configuration, administration and management. General understanding of Cloud environment architecture and set up. Experience working with network and server management software, and upgrades. Familiarity with the following: HP/Aruba systems (including wireless and Switches), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, NAS Storage environment, network monitoring tools, VMware, Office 365. Texas Driver’s License. Ability to work after hours and weekends in an “on-call” status, and to respond to network outages at all hours as required. Ability to obtain Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Certification within the first twelve (12) months of employment. Ability to physically stand, bend squat, and lift equipment. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently. Ability to pass CJIS and FBI 7 year background check. Possess any two of the following certifications: CompTIA A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network +, MCSA, VM Ware Certified Professional.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and two (2) years of experience; or Associate’s Degree in related field and four (4) years of experience. Windows Server 2008 and later, switch and router configuration. Certification in Amazon Web Services Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure Platform set up and configuration. Knowledge and experience installing and troubleshooting Windows10 and later desktop operating systems. Detail oriented individual with strong customer service attitude. Knowledge of firewalls.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Drug Screening: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy.
Additional Criminal Background Screening Required: In addition to the standard pre-employment criminal background check, individuals receiving a conditional offer for this position shall be subject to a finger-print based background screening due to the required access to secured buildings and/or secure data systems.
