CORE PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The IT Network Administrator & Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, management, and maintenance of our organization’s network infrastructure. This role ensures that the network operates efficiently, securely, and reliably to support the business’s technological needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network administration, with a proven ability to manage complex network environments and resolve technical issues promptly.
MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Network Design and Implementation
• Design and deploy network solutions that align with the organization’s goals and requirements.
• Install and configure network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
• Plan and manage network expansion and upgrades to accommodate growth and new technologies.
Network Administration
• Monitor network performance, ensuring maximum uptime and optimal speed.
• Perform regular network maintenance, including patch management, firmware updates, and backups.
• Maintain detailed network documentation, including configurations, policies, and diagrams.
Troubleshooting and Technical Support
• Diagnose and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring business continuity.
• Provide technical support to end-users and collaborate with other IT staff to resolve issues.
• Analyze network traffic and security logs to identify and mitigate potential threats.
Network Security
• Implement and maintain robust network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, encryption, and access controls.
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and address potential risks.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure network resilience in case of emergencies.
Project Management and Collaboration
• Lead or participate in network-related projects, from planning through implementation, ensuring timely and successful completion.
• Collaborate with other IT and business departments to support ongoing operations and projects.
• Mentor and train junior IT staff on networking best practices and technologies.
Continuous Improvement
• Stay updated with the latest networking technologies, trends, and best practices.
• Recommend and implement improvements to network infrastructure and processes.
• Obtain and maintain relevant certifications to enhance skills and knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or CISSP are preferred
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience in network administration and engineering
• Experience with network security practices, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and encryption
• Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, Nagios)
• Project management would be advantageous
• Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible)
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS)
• Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices (e.g., Cisco, HP)
• Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V)
• Knowledge of VoIP, QoS, and network traffic shaping
• Understanding of regulatory compliance and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001)
