Interns are introduced to every aspect of our news operation, within a structured and supervised environment. Local news interns spend time in each unit observing, learning, and participating.
During their rotation, interns will:
Participate in daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing and editingLearn editorial and technical aspects of news gatheringShadow producers and assignment editorsProduce individual news stories for demo reels and onlineParticipate in studio anchor sessionResearch view calls and tips and assist on the assignment deskCreate individual special project opportunitiesInterns should have some experience in journalism, at least in the classroom, but preferably in a television newsroom setting.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
Basic Requirements:
Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (June 2025 – August 2025). May 2025 graduates are not eligible for the Summer 2025 Program.Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (June 2025 – August 2025). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.Must be available to work 16-24 hours per weekMust be willing to work in Washington, DCDesired Characteristics:
Desired Backgrounds Include: Journalism or Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Production, English, Social Media, Research.
Previous internship experience or on-campus involvementAbility to work effectively in a high-intensity environment, often under tight deadline pressuresStrong written and oral communication skillsAttention to detail and strong organizational skillsStrong interest in and demonstrated knowledge of current affairsExcellent computer skills (especially search skills)The hourly rate for student interns is $17.50
