Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated graduate student intern for the summer of 2025 (12-week internship) to contribute to cutting-edge research in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) resonator technologies. The research aims to enhance the design and operating techniques of MEMS resonators to improve frequency stability for MEMS-based clocks used in timing applications and reduce long-duration position error for MEMS-based gyroscopes in inertial sensing and navigation.
Key areas of focus include improving resilience in challenging environments (high temperatures, shock), while minimizing system size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP). The selected intern will support the electrical characterization and closed-loop performance of MEMS resonators, contributing to advancing the state of the art in these technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Assist with the electrical characterization of MEMS resonators
+ Support closed-loop performance testing and analysis
+ Work on optimizing frequency stability for timing applications (MEMS clocks) and position accuracy for inertial sensing (MEMS gyroscopes)
+ Contribute to research focused on resilience in high-temperature and shock environments
+ Collaborate with a team to improve SWaP performance metrics
Work Environment:
+ Location: Onsite at AFRL on Wright-Patterson AFB
+ Travel Requirements: Minimal 0-20%; No planned travel
+ Working Hours: Standard 40 hours per week
Qualifications:
Required:
+ US Citizen: Must be a US citizen and able to pass a National Agency Check
+ Education: Must be pursuing an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
+ Computer Literate: Must know how to use computers and software applications.
Desired:
+ Self-Motivated: Self-motivated and able to work independently.
+ Team-Oriented: Capable of collaborating effectively within a team environment.
+ Communications Skills: Have good communication skills, both oral and written.
+ Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
+ Detail-Oriented: Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks.
+ Experience: Strong background in MEMS technology, electrical characterization, or control systems. Knowledge of timing, inertial sensing, or navigation systems is a plus.
