National Security Program Coordinator, National Security Policy Center (NSPC) at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy

The National Security Policy Center (NSPC) at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy seeks applicants for the role of Program Coordinator. This position supports the Director of Operations at the NSPC with student centered program development, events and conferences, and contributing to ongoing research in national security. This role will also liaise with the newly established National Security Data and Policy Institute at UVA.

This will be a full-time in person position in our office, adjacent to Grounds, at 134 10th Street, NW, Charlottesville.

The NSPC at UVA Batten provides evidence-based teaching, research, and policy engagement on pressing security issues facing the United States and the globe. We prepare students and security professionals to address the most challenging current issues by seeking to increase knowledge, build capability, develop relationships, and improve communication within the U.S. government, between the U.S. government and academics, and between the U.S. and foreign powers.

Responsibilities:

Student Coordination –

Create and maintain relationships with faculty, students, and organizations across Grounds with a national security focus.Highly involved in alumni engagement and employer relations within the intelligence community (IC).Responsible for matching student workers to projects and managing student research deliverables.Oversees internship selection and summer programs, and coordinates student attendance at national security conferences.

Research Assistance -

Research assistance on key projects including academic articles and books, policy white papers, and government reports.The individual occupying this role will have the opportunity to support original research under the direction of principal investigators, editing research products, and coordinating with student research teams.

Events support -

Manage programming including small group discussions, academic gatherings, and meetings.Ability to perform all aspects of event planning, including developing agendas, managing guest speaker logistics, and confirming and managing venues and vendors.Support vendor management of large conferences.

Additional duties will include -

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of contacts and event management platforms like Constant Contact and Eventbrite.Assist in organizing publicity with the relevant offices around Grounds, manage registrations where appropriate.Cultivate relationships with employers and UVA alumni in the intelligence community, connecting current students through targeted projects.Assist with creatively highlighting alumni IC careers and student internships and projects through vlogs, social media, etc.Act as a liaison between students, staff, and potential employers by drafting professional correspondence, posting student and alumni internship and job announcements, distributing specific program information and coordinating schedules and calendars when appropriate.Other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Qualifications:

US CitizenshipAssociate's degreeOne year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related fieldDemonstrated strong written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated ability to collaboratively work with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholdersBackground in and/or familiarity with the national security and or intelligence communities

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $46,000-$58,000 commensurate with education and experience.  

This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The position will remain open until filled.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
