The position reports to the Head of Risk and Security.
Your responsibilities will include:
Risk Management & Mitigation
Develop and implement a national risk management framework for the logistics and fleet division. Identify, assess, and prioritize risks across the logistics and fleet operation. Create risk mitigation plans, disaster recovery strategies, and contingency plans to reduce vulnerabilities and ensure business continuity. Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of risk controls.Fleet & Asset Security
Design and oversee security protocols for the company’s fleet and logistics infrastructure vehicles, cross docks, pick up points, returns and recovery facilities. Implement/maintain vehicle tracking and monitoring systems to ensure fleet safety, asset protection, and theft prevention. Collaborate with the operations and IT teams to ensure the effective integration of security technologies (CCTV, GPS tracking, RFID, etc.). Ensure compliance with transportation security standards. Ensure the company’s Regional Fleet Control Rooms and managed and used optimal to reduce fleet costs and to limit losses.Loss Prevention & Incident Management
Develop a loss prevention strategy focusing on theft, fraud, and other forms of asset misappropriation within the logistics and fleet operations. Investigate incidents related to loss or damage of goods, theft, or security breaches and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Lead and coordinate responses to security-related incidents, working with law enforcement agencies and other external stakeholders. Maintain a database of incidents and provide regular reports on trends and actionable insights. Implement and maintain and intelligence network to provide pro-active and real time information. Work closely with other departments to reduce claims and losses while in transit.Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure all logistics and fleet security operations comply with South African laws and regulations, including those related to road safety, labor, and health & safety. Stay updated on relevant regulatory changes and work closely with legal and compliance teams to implement necessary adjustments. Lead and participate in audits conducted by external bodies or authorities. Manage and ensure compliance for Occupational Health and Safety. Implement and maintain a fraud prevention plan in line with the company guildeines and policies.Team Leadership & Development
Lead, manage, and develop a national team of regional security and risk officers. Lead, manage and develop a team of SHERQ officers to manage and ensure compliance across all facilities. Provide training and awareness programs for fleet drivers and other logistics personnel on safety, security, and loss prevention protocols. Foster a culture of safety and risk awareness across the logistics and fleet teams.Stakeholder Collaboration
Liaise with internal stakeholders (operations, legal, HR, IT, etc.) and external partners (vendors, law enforcement, and security contractors) to ensure seamless security operations. Serve as the main point of contact for security matters with external agencies, ensuring quick response and collaboration during incidents.Budget Management
Manage the risk and security budget for the logistics and fleet division, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources. Evaluate and procure security technologies, equipment, and services that enhance operational safety and security.Technology Integration & Innovation
Stay abreast of new technologies in fleet management and security and drive innovation in risk management practices. Integrate advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics into risk identification and response strategies.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Reduction theft and asset losses across logistics and fleet operations. Incident response time and resolution efficiency. Compliance with national and industry-specific regulations. Successful completion of risk audits and assessments. Successful completion of OHS audits and assessments. Reduction in insurance claims related to fleet and logistics operations. Fleet tracking and monitoring effectiveness (including fuel theft, route deviations, etc.).Qualifications and Experience
National Diploma, Security Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in a senior security and risk management role, with experience in logistics, fleet management, or supply chain within an e-commerce or logistics company. Proven track record of managing large-scale risk management programs across a distributed national footprint. Strong understanding of logistics operations, fleet management systems, and asset protection technologies. Deep knowledge of South African laws and regulations related to security, transportation, and occupational health and safety. Experience leading large teams and managing cross-functional stakeholders.Skills and Competencies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent leadership and team management capabilities. Ability to work under pressure and respond to incidents quickly and effectively. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Excellent communication and presentation abilities. Knowledge of security technologies and trends in logistics and fleet management. Knowledge and background in CiiMS for incidents and investigations. Knowledge and background of LexusGRC to manage and ensure compliance of SHEMS teams.Desirable Attributes
