National Park Foundation – Inclusive Storytelling Intern

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

SIPP in partnership with Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve are seeking individuals to serve as Inclusive Storytelling Interns. Members will provide an inclusive perspective from within their communities. They will help promote cultural resources to help understand the past and future of their Tribe.


This is a 10-week internship, the intern will work with their respective Tribe to develop the “Bayuk Tribal Educational Video Project: Louisiana’s Federally Recognized Tribes in Their Own Words Through Film and Storytelling.” They will be responsible for outreach, interviewing, and assisting with curriculum development. The project will result in a series of short, professionally produced videos of tribal member interviews to educate the public about Louisiana’s four federally recognized tribes. This project will address the wrongful exclusion of these tribe’s stories and the videos will be played in the French Quarter Visitor Center, be accessible through the National Park Jean Lafitte (JELA) webpage, and be submitted for inclusion on the National Park Service (NPS) App. JELA will use interview material collected through the Project to create additional podcasts beyond this grant period to be added to the Visitor Center’s interpretative displays and made available through the web pages. All video content will be approved by the tribes themselves with production and technical expertise is provided by ElephantQuilt Productions, a New Orleans-based film production company.


Position Responsibilities will include:

·         Identify resources that can be added to video and curriculum building including people of interest, artifacts, music, cultural events, and visual displays

·         Write a script for interviews, set up audio and recording equipment, upload interviews or any digital forms of captured resources

·         Assist with the creation of a curriculum

 

Benefits:

·         Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $1,565.08 (pre-tax).

·         Living Allowance: $600/week (pre-tax)
