Summary
The Medium Voltage Field Service Technician will perform installing, testing, repairing, and maintenance of low/medium/high voltage electric power cables and equipment. Maintain detailed reports, consult schematics and manuals for troubleshooting, and adhere to company safety and environmental regulations.
Primary Duties
Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, perform start-ups, and collects data of low and medium voltage electrical systems, and power metering. Ensure equipment is functional and certified. Maintain calibration of various testing equipment: Ductor, Megger, Hi-Pot, VLF, TTR. CT ratio & saturation, Power Factor/Tan Delta. Prepare and maintain reports detailing all tests, repairs, and maintenance performed. Troubleshoot, repair, replace and clean equipment and components in a substation. Install terminations and perform repairs on low and medium voltage cabling (480V,5kV, 15kV, & 34.5kV). Land connections on transformers, switchgear, switches, generators, and turbines. Close MV and HV Switches/Breakers to energize lines or equipment. Open MV and HV Switches/Breakers to de-energize lines or equipment to be worked on. Follow proper LOTO procedures to ensure safety for generator and turbine techs (tests for voltage, apply grounding device, apply locks). Install and maintain transformers, capacitors, insulators, lightning arrestors, switches, circuit breakers, and other accessories used in connection with medium-voltage distribution. Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams and engineering personnel to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and determine optimum equipment functioning. Understand and comply with all company safety and environmental regulations, including safe work practices as described in company manuals. Install or repair any of a variety of electrical equipment such as LV/MV cables, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches; working from schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment; working standard of wiring or electrical equipment; and using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments. Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.Working Relationships

Job Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education: Degree in Electrical/Electronic technology. Years of Experience: Four years of experience testing electrical power equipment (LV & MV). Four years of experience as a Medium Voltage Cable Technician. Experience with electrical principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing electrical systems at 480V, 5kV, 15kV, & 34.5kV. Licenses/Certification: Certificate in Splicing Certificate from major manufactures for terminations (3M, Richards, Hubbell) Software/Equipment Knowledge: Understanding of basic protective relay equipment for transformers and substation equipment; SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens, etc. Knowledge of equipment: low voltage, medium voltage, high voltage, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motors, PT's, CT’s, CCVT's, load banks, generators, and turbines. Microsoft Office Other Considerations: Able to deal effectively with other employees, outside contractors and vendors.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements needed to perform the positions, and possible working conditions that the employee could be working in. Below is an example of this:
Normal working hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. Extended hours may be required based on specific requirements. Ground and air travel is required of this position. Ability to travel up to 100% is required. Work is performed on customer sites. Work at facilities can occur around industrial hazards, in areas of high noise levels, and around new construction. Physical mobility to transverse stairways, ladders, grating, and uneven terrain are essential. Ability to see, hear, read, and react to warning signs, lights, and alarms are essential. Ability to lift 50lbs.
Fit for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
