Summary

The Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ) for Sanford Health News is responsible to research, develop, edit, write and shoot daily video stories for Sanford Health News. This position may also host Sanford Health News programs including podcasts and produce television quality programming that is shared via the website and internal channels. This work includes conducting interviews, developing and writing news stories, taking photos/videos and producing stories on Sanford Health’s news and events.

Job Description

The Multi-Media Journalist reports to the News Director and works as a key member of the Sanford Health News team in the marketing department. This role will present Sanford Health stories in written, video and podcast formats; and will participate in all "live" news conferences and announcements as a member of the media, representing Sanford Health. The MMJ will ensure content ties all stories together in a cohesive, strategic manner. The MMJ will maintain a strong presence across multiple social media platforms to advance the mission of Sanford Health and promote the brand.

Meets with the News Manager or Director, writers, reporters, photographers, videographers and other stakeholders to identify story ideas. Creates original news stories; gathers information for news stories using subject matter experts, contacts and leads (which includes staff and patients).

Actively participates in daily news huddles. Builds contacts and sources within the assigned areas of responsibilities. Develops, writes and produces stories within assigned deadlines. Delivers news reports, including live reports, demonstrating energy, confidence, professional appearance and voice equality.

Writes, shoots and edits own news stories for an assigned newscast or news series. Combines video, audio and graphics to tell the story effectively. Works with a photographer or videographer on occasion. Works with assignment editor for prioritization and scheduling of all stories. Hosts podcasts as assigned, serving as the lead interviewer and host and producer.

Manages general upkeep of assigned company equipment. Promotes stories aggressively via social media accounts. Complies with other job related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

A four-year degree in journalism, or related field required.

Proven work experience with a minimum of three years full-time experience as a news reporter/anchor or program host. Comfortable and professional presence on camera. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Must have a thorough knowledge of how to use digital and mobile platforms to deliver news in a fast-paced environment. Able to work under stressful conditions and deadlines. Previous health care experience preferred.
