Job Summary
The Multicraft Technician II is responsible for safely completing a wide range of advanced multicraft tasks under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and must be proficient in mechanical, electrical and facility maintenance in a manufacturing setting. Responsible for assigned preventative maintenance work orders and repairs to electrical systems and mechanical equipment in the plant. Daily requirements will include skills such as fabricating, welding, machining, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. The Maintenance Technician supports the production of high quality commercial roofing products, with a sense of urgency and accountability for equipment uptime. This employee thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities and is able to make recommendations to improve the overall performance of plant equipment. The technician will interact and communicate effectively with all GAF employees with a positive, customer focused attitude.
Essential Duties
Provide advanced maintenance support and PM’s of equipment for the Plant site.
● This includes troubleshooting, working from blueprints and schematics as related to
machine drives and conveying systems in a high production line environment.
● Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner (includes documenting work performed
in Maximo and closing out order).
● Performs root cause failure analysis on manufacturing and maintenance equipment.
● Read instructions, blue prints and manuals, and use any meters, hand tools and shop
equipment to perform the required job tasks.
● Performs skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and other physical
structures.
● Perform millwright work such as aligning a pump and motor, install sheaves, belts, align
equipment, check for proper alignment and belt tension. Troubleshoot, repair/replace power
transmission/trains, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, welding and assembly of parts and
materials.
● Perform all phases of welding including STICK, MIG & TIG.
● Perform basic pipe fitting skills, including installations, repairs, or modifications.
● Troubleshoot process control ladder logic and variable frequency drives (VFDs).Performs
preventative analysis testing on manufacturing equipment like vibration analysis, lubrication,
thermography and ultrasound analysis.
● Maintains proper lube storage, including 5S standard storage locations.
● Perform preventive and predictive maintenance assignments.
● Work with other members of the maintenance department on mechanical and electrical
projects, work orders and line calls.
● Working knowledge of 480v systems and their respective controls, ability to use and read
multimeter. Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix Controllers / RS Logix 5000. Operate
a manual mill and lathe. Involved in planned and unplanned maintenance work and jobs for
both daily and maintenance outages.
● Provide on-the-spot, on-the-job equipment-related expertise and technical guidance.
● Enhance communication and coordination between maintenance and other departments,
especially the production department.
● Provide input and feedback to the maintenance planner and storeroom personnel to
refine/finalize labor, parts, priorities and methods.
● Ensure safety, quality, timeliness, cost and thoroughness of work performed.
● Responds as a First call-in contact for maintenance emergencies.
● Participate in safety, continuous improvement, and 5S initiatives.
● Provide a safe workplace through adherence to company safety policy, housekeeping and
defined standards of training.
● Stay in compliance with safety policies and procedures. Conduct inspections of plant areas
and ensure that deficiencies found are resolved or appropriately communicated.
● Continue to grow, becoming well-trained, involved, and committed to meeting department
expectations, including following all safety requirements.
Under This Roof We Require
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
● Trade Certifications and status relevant to the position
● A minimum of 5 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience is required.
● 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in high-volume manufacturing operation, preferably continuous process
● Experience troubleshooting and repair of mechanical power trains, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, welding and assembly of parts and materials.
● A working knowledge of 480v systems and their respective controls, ability to use and read multimeter.
● Ability to operate a manual mill and lathe.
● Working knowledge of Electrical Codes and NFPA 70e. (Certification preferred)
● Advanced knowledge of mechanical and facilities repair and maintenance.
● Must be able to read instructions, blueprints, and manuals and use any meters, hand tools
and shop equipment to perform the required job tasks.
● Must be able to perform millwright work such as aligning a pump and motor, install sheaves, belts, align equipment, check for proper alignment and belt tension.
● Perform all phases of welding including STICK, MIG & TIG. Work on pipe systems, which would involve repairing, modifying, fabricating and installing new systems.
● Experience troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFDs).
● Perform preventive and predictive maintenance assignments.
● Work with other members of the maintenance department on mechanical and electrical projects, work orders and line calls. Must have a good safety and attendance record, and be willing to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
