Job Description:
MTM Robotics is looking for a qualified individual to fill an opening for a Software Engineer (SE). MTM designs, manufactures, and installs automated assembly and control systems for research and industrial manufacturing applications in the aerospace industry. The SE will work with electromechanical processes and equipment that perform software-programmed tasks in manufacturing environments. The SE will design, implement, and test software-driven electromechanical equipment to ensure proper functionality. The SE will also work with the Systems Engineering team developing MTM’s web-based system integration software. Our tools are used in the direct manufacture of large-scale aerospace structures. The duties of the SE include:
• Develop medium and high-level software in a mixed computing environment with an emphasis on three arenas: 1) embedded Linux supervisory software, 2) security and access control, and 3) data management
• Improve existing software based on requirements and requests from customers and colleagues.
• Assist in the design process of new systems and architectures and inform the development of better programming practices and procedures.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues that may cross over into the electrical and hardware domain.
• Provide technical support in subject matters concerning performance, installation, maintenance, system testing, and documentation of software and hardware.
The ideal candidate would have:
• Comfort programming in C/C++, JavaScript, and (optionally) .NET C#. Understands, develops, and debugs low-level software routines as well as system-wide software architectures.
• Knowledge of modern programming practices, along with a willingness to work with and troubleshoot code designed to older standards.
• Working knowledge of the following platforms: Windows 7/10 desktop and Linux embedded products.
• Experience working with Node.js, HTML/CSS, Angular, Bootstrap, MongoDB, Mocha, Python
• Experience in some or all of the following protocols: REST APIs, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, Websockets, CAN, I2C, SPI, RS-232, RS-485.
• Comfort reading/interpreting JSON and XML
• Discipline and organization with respect to software maintenance and version management.
• Experience with source configuration management tools (git).
• The ability to work independently to achieve required goals with minimal oversight.
• The interpersonal skills and knowledge to work within an engineering development team that spans multiple disciplines (electrical, software, mechanical, systems engineering).
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Senior Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar.
• The ability to work independently to achieve required goals with minimal oversight, and provide accurate estimates of work effort to accomplish a well-defined task.
