In support of the OHSU Logistics mission, this position is responsible to provide transportation and delivery services including:

Move/Event Crew: Office & Lab moves, event rental services, freight delivery, etc.; Surplus Operations: removal/delivery and transportation of OHSU surplus property and equipment;  Modular Furniture Services: provides move and minor installation support for the installation and removal of modular office furniture for campus users; warehousing of excess furniture. Move specialist/Courier Operations: timely and efficient transport of USPS & inter-company mail, specimens, reports, checks, etc. Specialized Equipment and Lab Moves – Providing teardown, delivery, and set-up service relating to oversized, overweight, and technically sensative and/or fragile equipment Shuttle Operations – safe and customer oriented transportation of OHSU employees, students, and patients using ADA compliant 22-passenger shuttle buses. Providing support to the tram for transportation and dleivery  of equipment and supplies when shutdowns occur due to maintanance or wetaher elated events.

This position requires the safe operation of OHSU supplied motor vehicles and other industry related equipment to provide these services. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers of the OHSU community.

Function/Duties of Position

Relocation/Move Support.

Performs large and smalls scale office and lab moves. Assists in coordination of all facets involved in relocations. Including, but not limited to, packing, labeling, wrapping, securing, and loading material for transport. Equipment used includes, machine carts, dollies, pump carts, pallet jacks, and library carts. Involved in the removal and setting up of free-standing furniture and equipment for OHSU events. Provides distribution support for freight and supply deliveries around campus.

Specialized Relocation/Move Support.

Performs specialized office, laboratory, and equipment moves and surplus removals as per customer request. Specialized equipment is more specifically described as oversize, overweight (1000 lbs. to 3500 lbs.) or sensitive items such as, but not limited to Bio-safety cabinets (hoods), air tables, microscopes (atomic, electron, etc.), lasers, cyclotrons, autoclaves, must be able to disassemble, pack, transport, and reassemble items that cannot be moved as whole due to size limitations with rooms, hallways, elevators, and trucks.Must transmit confidence and trust to customers and remain professional, calm, and provide understanding to the customers as they may need to continue to work with the move is in action.

Material Transportation & Delivery.

Transports materials throughout the OHSU campuses and Greater Portland Metropolitan Area on a pre-set, scheduled route. Follows all Federal, State, and Local laws in regard to motor vehicle operation and safety. Adheres to all departmental, parking, and safety policies and procedures in the operation of motor vehicles. Commonly transported materials include: personnel, US and inter-departmental mail, cash and check deposits, payroll, office and medical supplies, lab specimens, event materials, medical and lab equipment, and other business furnishings. Responsible for maintaining timeliness of route and adjusting as needed to traffic or weather conditions. Responsible for maintaining integrity of materials throughout the transportation chain. Requires the proper use of handheld devices for package tracking, signature capture, and GPS.

Vehicle Operations.

Properly operates OHSU owned and leased vehicles, in accordance with all Federal, State, and local laws, as well as departmental policy and procedure. Completes daily vehicle inspections and documents as necessary. Reports and discrepancies to appropriate coordinator or management team member. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the interior and exterior of vehicles operated. Must be able to install/operate and trouble shoot issues with snow chains during inclement weather events.

Equipment Operation.

Performs proper use, maintenance, cleaning, and storage of equipment used to perform daily activities; including, but not limited to: cell phone, text pager, pallet jacks, tables, chairs, dollies, hand trucks, load bars, load straps, moving carts, power and hand tools, forklift, and other job related equipment. Secures and stores equipment immediately when no longer needed, and treats all equipment with respect.

Surplus Property Support.

Provides support to surplus staff in the removal, delivery, and management of surplus property. Assists in the staging, sorting, shipping, and inventory of various surplus property items for sale and disposal.

Customer, Dispatcher, and Management Interaction.

Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers both in-person and over the phone. Listens to customers’ concerns and performs follow-up responsibilities as appropriate. Serves as a helpful resource to customers regarding OHSU and departmental policies & procedures. Uses strong written and verbal skills to communicate with customers, dispatcher, and manager in a prompt, professional and courteous manner. Contacts dispatcher after each job is completed, or as otherwise instructed. Responds to all phone calls, text messages, emails, and voice messages in a prompt and professional manner. Informs dispatcher and/or customers of any delays or issues in completion of requested services. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and/or one-on-one meetings.

General Warehouse Activities.

Assists in general upkeep of warehouse utilizing various types of equipment, including forklifts, pallet trucks, powered pallet trucks, swing masts, ladders, supply picking trucks, etc. Performs various custodial duties in warehouse areas including sweeping, rack maintenance, mopping, and removing trash.

Clerical.

Accurate and timely completion of all various paperwork associated with daily activities including: Deposit Logs, Delivery Receipts, Dock 4 Logs, Overtime & Vacation Request Forms, Timecard Correction Forms, VIR books, etc. Returns completed paperwork to the responsible party. Properly fill out and keep track of Delivery Services Job Tickets as they are completed and turn in to the Delivery Services Dispatcher no later than the end of shift; this includes: Customer Signature, Start and End Times, Job Notes, Employee Names, leaving Receipt with Customer.

Personnel Transportation.

Transports employees and guests via charter services utilizing 15-25 passenger shuttle buses. Responsible for the safe operation of specialty equipment to assist shuttle riders with egress to and from the shuttles. Actively engages in defensive driving techniques to provide a safe ride for shuttle occupants

Other Activities.

Inspects condition of supplies and materials used to perform tasks; reports problems or concerns to appropriate employee. Performs pre and post trip inspections of warehouse equipment May provide coverage for other logistics personnel. Required Qualifications

High School or GED equivalent

Two years of professional driving experience using vehicles such as sedans, vans, and box trucks.

AND One year of industry related experience

Current Driver’s license and driving record that meets OHSU’s driving requirements.

Basic computers skills, including familiarity with MS Office

General Computer usage and beginning skills using MS Office. Basic mathematical skills.

Ability to lift up to 65 lbs. without the use of a mechanical device, occasionally lift and move equipment weighing in excess of 100 lbs. with assistance.

Must have the ability to multi-task, work efficiently without direct supervision, and posses effective time management skills.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Must possess excellent problem solving ability, as well as demonstrating effective conflict resolution skills.

Must have the ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.

Must be able to read and write English. Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality

Current Driver’s license and driving record that meets OHSU’s driving requirements.

CDL with Passenger Endorsement.

Hazardous Materials Endorsement.

Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole

Preferred Qualifications Four years of experience in Transportation Industry and customer service position. One year in health care environment. Additional Details
