Motor Equipment Mechanic II - Quabbin/Ware Region Region
The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DCR is a dynamic agency and is one of the largest park systems in the nation. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, golf courses, trails and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking candidates for the position of Motor Equipment Mechanic II, Quabbin/Ware Region. *General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:* Works in maintaining, repairing, overhauling, and replacing passenger vehicles, heavy equipment, boat motors (large and small), heavy equipment, groundskeeping equipment, and other motor-driven machinery owned by the state; diagnose repairs, complete requisitions of parts, and supplies, keeps records of work done; and performs related work as required. * * *Specific Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:* -Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair motor vehicles and equipment for use by agency personnel; consult with operators, manufacturers or dealer's representative regarding specifications or problems relating to the operation of motor vehicles and/or equipment, write repair orders; and perform related work as required. -Participates in the repairing, overhauling and servicing of construction and automotive equipment. -Adjusts and repairs brakes, carburetors, hydraulic pumps, cylinder heads, valves and similar automotive components. -Records the mileage and the consumption of gasoline, oil and antifreeze for each vehicle. -Participates in periodic motor equipment inspections and services for state vehicles. -Stocks automotive parts and supplies used in the garage and maintains an inventory of supplies. -Inspects completed repairs to verify that they have been properly made. -Performs electric and acetylene welding on vehicles and equipment as needed. -Rebuilds or repairs automotive and truck bodies as needed. -Locks all gates -Checks that all buildings for storing equipment, tools, parts, etc. are locked. -Receives shipments and is responsible for contents. -Services and repairs heavy equipment, generators and pumps assigned to region. -Provides emergency road service for DCR vehicles. -Maintain records for the repairs completed. -Performs other related duties as required. This is a Safety Sensitive Position title that requires a CDL (A or B) and 2A Hoisting License. Because this is a safety sensitive position, participation in the DCR Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program is required. This chosen applicant will be subject to Pre-placement and Random DOT Drug and Alcohol testing. Motor Equipment Mechanics work under exposure to the harmful effects of exhaust fumes, gases, dust, noise, etc; hazards such as moving parts of machinery, electrical shock, etc., and hazardous conditions such as slippery floors and cramped and confined spaces; work outdoors in all types of weather, work varied shifts, weekend, holidays and nights; lift and carry heavy objects and stand for prolonged periods of time. *Preferred Qualifications:* -Heavy equipment or Automotive professional training -A.S.E. certification -Marine Boat/Motor repair experience -MA Boat Safety Certificate -Spill Response Experience and/or Training -Hot spot training for "Hot Work" -Possession of or the ability to obtain MA 4G and 1C licenses. *First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.* Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automotive equipment such as automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc. or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at the high school level or above, with a major in automotive shop practice may be substitution for one year of the required (A) experience. Special Requirements: Based on assignment: 1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's License. 2.
