Responsibilities

Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. They provide assistance in transporting, transferring and lifting. They perform cleaning Functions in patient care unit as delegated, and perform selected diagnostic tests.  Ability to provide continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns of patients on telemetry and reports significant information to appropriate nursing personnel; Functions within a designated hospital area to assist nursing personnel in the close observation in the monitoring of patients.

Essential Key Job ResponsibilitiesProvides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff Monitors and records vital signs Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output Obtains and records daily weight Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meterReports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN Performs as patient care companion when needed Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process Performs unit housekeeping needsActs as a runner/transporter Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnel Updates assigned bed status Maintains a safe environment by responding to all bed alarms, call lights, telephones and alerting the correct personKeeps patient environment clean, Performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions Communicates with patient’s family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in an accurate, courteous, and professional manner Acts as receptionist for unit; has limited use of the hospital information systems according to hospital policy dependent on the need of unit. This can include, but not limited to: consulting in Cerner, navigate through Cerner, discharge patients, put milestones into tele tracking, maintain paper charts and checking on MD ordersRemoves saline locks  Order floor stock and puts it awayPerform 12 lead EKGs where unit allowsContinuous observation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates and Maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur. Labels strip with patient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRS interval Trouble shoots telemetry equipment, Ensures monitors are functioning properly, ensure telemetry supplies are readily available. Accounts for all telemetry transmitters, Verifies daily telemetry charges Identifies changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern, notifying RN of these changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, runs a continuous EKG strip and notifies appropriate staff Demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and development by completing annual mandatory in-services and Code Validation within given time frame, attends unit-based in-services, attends monthly departmental meetings. Demonstrates flexibility in responding to unit/service needs, i.e., floating to other areas.Other duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

High School Diploma/GED

Required Licensure and Certifications

BLS

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Good written/oral communication skills

Completion of PCA II orientation/training CBO checkoff 

Demonstrate knowledge in the area of EKG interpretation through the following :

A) Dysrhythmia Rhythm Interpretation Exam. 

B) Successfully complete the Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation

PREFERRED Qualifications

One (1) year direct patient care experience
