Molecular Diagnostics Technical Specialist

SUMMARY:

Provides technical expertise and direction to the assigned team.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this document is to describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel as classified; it is not intended to serve as an inclusive list of all responsibility associated with this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to, the following:

1. Designs, conducts and optimizes experiments for sequencing-related testing.  Includes nucleic acid amplification, library preparation, target enrichment, and loading of sequencing-related equipment

2. Designs, conducts and optimizes experiments for molecular biology-related testing.  Includes nucleic acid extraction, Polymerase Chain Reactions (end-point, quantitative and real-time), primer and probe design.

3. Stays abreast of current and innovative developments in the field of clinical laboratory genomics and evaluates and recommends diagnostic and clinical development and improvements to advance genomic patient care in our laboratory.

4. Works in an efficient and timely manner to implement new technologies and incorporate test developments into the clinical diagnostic workflow.

5. Contributes to the educational and innovate culture within the department.

6. Effectively manages multiple projects in the highly technical genomics space.

7. Creates concise project plans that establish scope, goals and key metrics with detailed timelines.

8. Consistently ensures that accurate laboratory records are kept.

9. Responsible for data interpretation, analysis and reporting of results for method development and validation.  Summarize data into articulate reports/spreadsheets and write clear validation summaries.

10. Writes standard operating procedures.

11. Trains technologist on the newly developed laboratory techniques and helps to troubleshoot potential errors.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Master's degree in a relevant field such as biology, genetics or biochemistry preferred.  BA/BS in relevant discipline with over five years of experience accepted.

2.       Must have proficiency with developing Molecular assays.

3.       Solid molecular biology or genomics background.

4.       Excellent communication skills.  Ability to provide regular feedback/update for project progress.

5.       Strong problem-solving ability.

6.       Exceptional organizational skills.

7.       Ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously.

8.       Ability to meet project milestones and deadlines.
