Mobility Section Manager

We are currently looking for an Engines and Engine Accessories (E&EA) Section Manager able to support our Combat Vehicle Product Lines. Here we value our workforce and their well-being. This position is currently working 3 days / week on-site and up to 2 days / week remotely on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off out of our Sterling Heights, MI office. The Engines and Engine Accessories Section Manager is part of Mobility and Fluid Power Systems engineering and has responsibility for the capabilities, processes, and people management of a cross-site team focused on the integration of engines and engine accessories, such as cooling systems, intake, exhaust, filtration, fuel, and other related engine components. The Section Manager will be the supervisor of record for approximately 16 individual contributors, and will report directly to the Mobility and Fluid Power Systems Functional Manager. The Section Manager is accountable for collaborating with program leads for staffing needs in a timely manner, performing comprehensive planning relative to functional capacity and capability, and maintaining the technical vitality of people, processes, and infrastructure for the functional discipline/domain. The E&EA Section Manager collaborates with other CMS Engineering Functional and Sectional Managers to ensure that design work is performed consistent with emerging model-centric design practices and protocols. People + Ensure the technical competence of the assigned Engineering staff, reflecting both current and anticipated needs. + Maintain an affordable and competitive skill mix for the functional discipline/domain, including the judicious use of contract labor. + Review and approve time charging for assigned staff + Ensuring efficient utilization of staff; inclusive of proactively managing utilization via the use of overtime, contract labor, and hiring + Maintain assessments for the functional discipline/domain and apply assessment results to strategically manage and balance the functional workforce supporting CMS engineering. + Ensure that engineers rigorously apply BAE Systems and other governing (e.g., legal, ethical) policies, processes, practices, procedures, methods, standards, and guidelines in the performance of their duties. + Hold monthly reviews and provide feedback for the assigned staff, to include soliciting inputs from stakeholders, e.g. PEMs, IPT leads, peers and team subordinates to foster collaborative career development. Processes + Ensure the effectiveness and relevance of functional processes. + Ensuring functional processes meet applicable compliance and assessment standards, + Integrate and standardize functional process, to the extent practical, across CMS engineering. + Constructing and maintaining functional Engineering Estimating Tables (EET), Cost Estimating Relationships (CERs) to aid in the efficient construction of accurate, repeatable, and defendable functional bids and estimates. + Ensure that all sub-system analyses of alternatives appropriately and explicitly consider cross-platform commonality as a criterion, and shall rationalize, integrate, and modernize functionally applicable processes and infrastructure to support CMS Engineering. Infrastructure / Tools + Ensure a practical level of functional engineering design/analysis tool and services commonality across CMS Engineering to improve ability to effectively allocate work across sites + Ensuring the availability, efficiency, and relevance of functional engineering design/analysis tools and services + Ensuring the affordability of functional engineering design/analysis tools and services, inclusive of ensuring that disused and obsolete licenses and capabilities are sunset/scrapped in the interest of cost savings + Timely identification of capital and other investment requirements to sustain functional infrastructure, along with ensuring efficient utilization of such + Responsible for the completeness and adequacy of functional bids and estimates + Effectively manage allocated indirect budgets + Provide technical expertise to programs/projects, participating in peer reviews, performing independent design and phase reviews, performing color team reviews for pursuits, supporting bids and proposals, and supporting IRAD planning. **Required Education, Experience, & Skills** + Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field and 8 years experience. + Broad knowledge of each major subsystems and their inter-relationships, and an understanding of vehicle mobility performance. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose of vehicle powertrain systems. + Program leadership experience in developing and managing SOWs, budget and schedules. Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills. + Working knowledge of relevant military and commercial design and drawing standards. + Sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers and suppliers. + Highly self-motivated with strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities. + Ability to identify, define, interpret, and resolve engineering problems involving conflicting design/contractual/policy or technical requirements across functional areas. + Experienced in project scheduling, planning, execution, and reporting within assigned budget. + Ability to travel domestically and internationally. **Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills** + Familiarity with BAE Systems business processes or military vehicle experience. + Experience in design and development of engine and engine accessories development from concept through production. + EVMS experience within E2S or similar tool. + Experience conducting Life Cycle Management (LCM) reviews as an Assessor or Chairperson. **Pay Information** Full-Time Salary Range: $130355 - $221603 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
