 University IT (UIT), part of the Business Affairs organization at Stanford University, is dedicated to delivering world-class service and technology solutions to advance research, teaching, learning, and healthcare. Stanford University is expanding its Mobile Network services. We are looking for an IT Mobile Network Installation and Operations Technician who can excel in aligning the strategic evolution of the service, building partnerships with vendors, coordinating system installation and technical support services, and leading the deployment of Mobile Network systems in a fast pace and fluid environment.
 
The Mobile Network Installation and Operations Technician reports to the Director of Mobile Network Engineering within the Stanford University IT Infrastructure organization. This position is a member of a team, which has the responsibility to provide technology engineering oversight, client consulting, and operations support with a focus on Mobile (Cellular) Network that fulfill the network technology demands of the Stanford community.
 
The Mobile Network Technician function represents installation and support responsibility for IT Infrastructure Mobile Network Service to the Stanford University student, faculty, and staff community.

 

This is a hybrid-eligible position. This position is a 3-year fixed term.


 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mobile Network Technician position primarily focuses on the installation and operations support for Mobile Network services such as in-Building DAS (iDAS), outdoor DAS (oDAS) and cellular technologies such as 4G/LTE, 5G. Represent an innovative role when working with vendors and clients ensuring that Mobile Network solutions applications and services fit or exceed the demands of the Stanford community. Maintain documentation for all new Mobile Network technology and integrated applications and ensure that information is current. Be responsible for providing up-to-date documentation for ongoing administration and support for Mobile Network technology and integrated services. Conduct Mobile Network Connectivity and services training sessions unique to Stanford’s environment to engineering, consulting, and operations peers. This will maintain a powerful knowledge pool of resources to implement and support Mobile Network systems and services across the Stanford community. The Mobile Network Technician is expected to embrace converged voice and data technology solutions, be a collaborative team member, and be flexible and willing to participate in technology innovation initiatives that fall outside the scope of their immediate responsibilities. In addition, this position will represent a moderator role between IT Services workgroups ensuring synergy and collaboration where cross workgroup skills and expertise is essential for new projects and support escalations. Provide presentations to clients, upper management, and peers as it pertains to Mobile Network technology engineering, and provisioning. The Mobile Network Technician is expected to participate in 24/7 On-Call rotation in support of the operational integrity of ITI services.
  

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

This position must have a 4-year degree in CS, EE, related technology field, or equivalent experience.

This position is expected to have in-depth knowledge and experience with:

Understanding of cellular wireless technologies and the associated industry standard tools and techniques (i.e. 4G/LTE, 5G, etc.) Indoor and Outdoor Direct Antenna Systems (iDAS and oDAS) Cellular Booster Systems (e.g. Nextivity Cel-Fi, Wilson Pro, Comba) Experience with managing IT technical infrastructure components for new and/or updated buildings. Understanding of RF, LTE/CBRS setup IP networking, configuration, and setup Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to productively assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.          
 

ADDITIONAL FAMILIARIZATION AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
 

7 or more years of experience with Service Provider and/or Enterprise Mobile Network engineering, and implementation Advanced familiarization with large scale DAS deployments Extensive hands-on experience with monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving Mobile Network Connectivity issues. Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations. Keen grasp of interpersonal and impact awareness. Developing action plans and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete system implementations.

DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS

CWNA certification from Certified Wireless Networking Professionals (CWNP) Wireless Communication Engineering Technologies (WCET) certification program 

Physical Requirements*

Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry /push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand. Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals/asbestos, or heavy metals or work on roofs at heights greater than 10 ft. Travel locally and cross-university.

The expected pay range for this position is $123,408 - 146,108 per annum.
