Position Purpose:
Oversees and administers Point of Care Testing (POCT) Program for all hospital-based locations. Performs and interprets waived and moderately complex clinical laboratory tests

Professional Requirements:
Is responsible for education, supplies and inventory, computer operations, and process workflows related to POC testing in hospital-based departments and clinics. Establishes and maintains a quality improvement program appropriate to the area of responsibility. Maintains compliance with requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies such as College of American Pathologists, Joint Commission, OSHA, DNV, COLA etc. Collects and reviews quality control data and testing personnel competency records either manually or via computer. Ensures completion of proper and timely method correlation studies, proficiency testing and user competencies for each area where POC testing occurs. Provides technical oversight for all POC testing such as evaluation and implementation of new instrumentation, proper instrument operation, and quality control requirements. Develops and implements policies and procedures necessary for each POC test (including Procedure manuals). Maintains the accreditation documentation system for the POC testing program. Works with nursing/ancillary personnel to prepare and provide appropriate education and training for the scope of testing. Interacts with co-workers, patients of diverse ages, physicians, students, service representatives, and other hospital staff in a courteous professional manner. Is responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information. Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records and reports data obtained. Work in various areas of the lab.
Lab Duties
Coordinates and performs various chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic testing in a prompt manner with in QC guidelines. Evaluates reports and review all sample data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease in a timely manner. Evaluates all sample/data for specimen integrity, validity of results, instrument functions, reagent reactivity and investigating any discrepancy with documentation of resolution, as needed, utilizes computer for order communication functions at all levels. Assists in maintaining adequate inventory. Executes and documents QC program and proficiency testing with interpretations. Orients and instructs new employees and MLT students. Maintains knowledge and skills through continuing education programs. Takes immediate need disciplinary and preventive maintenance on various analyzers in designated areas with required resolve any problems. Observes all safety guidelines in compliance with safe work practices. Performs all duties in a high touch manner to enhance the image of South Central Regional Medical Center.

Performs, documents and reports qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests in a prompt manner, including internal and external quality control and proficiency testing. Evaluates all samples for specimen integrity checking data for validity of results, instrument functions, reagent reactivity and investigating any discrepancy with documentation of resolution including reportable events, as needed. Operate, troubleshoot, perform electronic checks and preventive maintenance on various analyzers in designated area, documenting as required and obtaining service as needed. Maintain adequate supply of reagents and materials in the work area by checking in supplies and keeping all areas stocked, informing the supervisor of need to reorder. Maintain complete and accurate records, per protocol, within the QC/QA program, notifying the supervisor of any discrepancies and documenting all necessary data. Orientation instruction and coordination of new employees and MLT interns in policies, procedures, and practices required by this facility. Assist health care personnel to resolve any conflict concerning laboratory tests or personnel documenting entire episode including reporting and promptly informing the supervisor/Charge Tech. Performs specimen collection and handling, ordering of tests, and recollections as needed, responding promptly. Utilizes hospital computer system for order communication functions at all levels covered by security code to include verification. Coordinates activities efficiently in order to provide time necessary to perform, other related duties such as workload recording, checking outstanding orders, and participation in continuing education programs and special projects designated by administration and etc. Observes all safety guidelines in compliance with safe work practices. Performs all duties in a high-touch manner to enhance the image of South Central Regional Medical Center and preforms assigned duties. Gives informal performance feedback and notifies supervisors of any issues. Notifies providers of critical values and another important information related to laboratory testing with documentation Follow all policies and procedures of SCRMC and laboratory. Performs all testing within COLA, CLIA and DNV regulations.
Microbiology:
1. Set up all types of cultures and perform all stains, including proper incubation.
2. Log on log sheet and log into micro solutions in Cerner.
2. Read and interpret all plates as to colony count, isolation, ID of organism & susceptibility on Vitek and manually, according to organism.
3. Preform concentrations, slides, and special AFB and fluorescent stains for Mycobacteria including solid and liquid media inoculation.
4. Preforms and report all Parasitology testing including wet mounts, trichrome stains and
test kits.
5. Utilizes and maintain microscope to read gram stains, wet mounts, trichrome, India Ink, KOH, AFB and fluorescent stains.
6. Reports to infection control and Mississippi Department of Health.
7. Reviews all work daily in LIS.
8. Inoculation of fungus cultures, stains, isolation and identification including germ tubes.
9. Sends out specimen or isolates to reference lab and Mississippi State Lab.
10. Utilizes and performs maintenances of BacT/Alert
11. Performs molecular testing for C. diff and maintenances of system.
12. Notifies providers, Employee Health, MSDH and or Jones Count Department of Health of
Critical organisms that may cause spread of diseases according to protocol.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Associates Degree Medical Laboratory Technology.
