Job Title MLC Program Assistant Agency Texas A&M University Department Math Learning Center Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Temporary/Casual Staff (Fixed Term) Job Description What We Want The Math Learning Center (MLC) is seeking a Program Assistant to support student learning through tutoring initiatives, content development, and data analysis. We need an individual who is passionate about mathematics education, proactive in problem-solving, and committed to fostering an engaging learning environment for students. The ideal candidate will have a strong mathematical background and a keen interest in academic support programs. They will be highly organized, adaptable, and able to collaborate effectively with MLC staff and tutors. This position requires strong analytical skills, experience with educational content creation, and a dedication to student success. What You Need to Know Hourly: $25/hr Cover Letter & Resume: A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended Schedule: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends Note: This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need - TAMU does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role Qualifications Required Education: + Bachelor's degree in mathematics Preferred Qualifications: + Master’s degree in mathematics + Experience in educational program development or tutoring + Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies + Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups + Strong analytical skills with experience in data visualization + Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs + Familiarity with online learning platforms and content creation tools Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Proficiency with LaTeX or comparable mathematical authoring tools + Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, statistical software) + Ability to develop resources for learning outcomes Responsibilities Program Facilitation & HOGU Development: + Supports the facilitation of workshops, tutoring sessions, and other MLC programs, ensuring smooth execution and positive student engagement + Contributes to the development, planning, and implementation of Hands-on, Grades Up (HOGU) Sessions, including creating lesson plans, activity guides, and other materials to enhance student learning and engagement Virtual Math Learning Center Content Development & Social Media Management: + Collaborates with MLC staff to create and manage engaging online resources, videos, and social media content for the MLC and Virtual Math Learning Center + Ensures digital content and social media posts align with MLC’s educational goals, enhancing student accessibility and engagement + Regularly updates online resources and social media channels, and monitors analytics to keep content current, relevant and, to inform content strategy Data Analysis: + Assists in collecting and analyzing data related to MLC programs and student outcomes. + Provides insights and recommendations to help improve programming and inform decision-making Tutor Training Support: + Assists in planning and coordinating training sessions for MLC tutors, develops resources for tutor engagement and professional development, and ensures effective delivery of training materials and sessions + Performs additional tasks as needed to support the MLC’s mission and goals Who We Are The Math Learning Center fosters the academic success of Texas A&M University students by supporting the high-enrollment courses with significant mathematics, statistics, and quantitative reasoning content, particularly those courses that fulfill core curriculum requirements or serve as prerequisites for more advanced topics. Faculty, as well as skilled graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate mentors, promote the growth of students' conceptual and practical math skills using engaging learning strategies such as tutoring, study sessions, workshops, and weekly reviews.
