Job DescriptionAs our Load & Haul Mining Engineer your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Safe and Healthy Work EnvironmentManage a safe and healthy work environment in which workers and contractors can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with statutory requirements is met.Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.Performance and DeliveryLoad and Haul Operations (Standards and Procedures):Monitor Load and Haul activities, analyse results and submit recommendations to achieve the desired fragmentation level.Inspect and approve safe Load and Haul practices to ensure compliance with the set standards.Conduct all Load and Haul processes according to the company policies and procedures guidelines.Develop procedures to govern the Load and Haul processes that meet the standards set by company policies and benchmark against the “best practices” in the same work environment.Implement and employ all systems and procedures to govern the Load and Haul processes, ensuring optimal production performance within the 12-month mining production schedule guidelines.Design Load and Haul patterns for each blast domain identified to optimise fragmentation and satisfy grade control requirements based on the mine’s requirements and the company’s technical standards and guidelines.Consult with all relevant personnel to ensure all Load and Haul activities are conducted safely and cost-effectively, meet the mine’s requirements, and follow the company’s technical standards and guidelines.Provide advice to relevant stakeholders on surface Load and Haul Practices, proactively alleviating or avoiding any unnecessary problems and ensuring all statutory compliance.Seek, test, analyse, and evaluate the latest Load & Haul technologies to make necessary recommendations before implementation to ensure viability.Provide technical support on timing, initiation points, load, and haul sequence, and fixing up holes to ensure compliance with the set standards.Load and Haul Process Management:Verify that all Load and Haul operations comply with the mine's requirements and the company's technical standards and guidelines.Identify any discrepancies between the designs and actual work conducted on all Load and Haul activities and act appropriately to reduce and eliminate the effects of these discrepancies, ensuring that their occurrence is minimised.Personnel Training and Competency:Ensure the level of training of the Load and Haul personnel is adequate and that their performance is not detracting from real-time gains.Listing of general performance based on daily audits.Actions to be taken to correct deviations and improve dispatcher performance.Identify training needs and develop programs to increase dispatcher skills and performance.This role is in Mining department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the Section Manager MIOC & Kolomela)
QualificationsGrade 12 or equivalentNational Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalentB Tech /Degree in Mining EngineeringSA Drivers LicenceTechnical
Knowledge
3-5 years of experience in production, load, haul operations, mine planning, and pit layout.Strong understanding of mining engineering principles, including geology, geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, and mineral processing.Knowledge of relevant safety legislation (e.g., MHSA, Minerals and Energy Act).Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainable mining practices.Proficiency in mining methods (surface, underground, in-situ), equipment, and technology.Proficient knowledge in project management and financial analysis.An understanding of health, safety, and environmental stewardship principles.Additional InformationWho we are?
