Job DescriptionAs our Mining Engineer your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Safe and Healthy Work EnvironmentManage a safe and healthy work environment in which workers and contractors can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with statutory requirements is met.Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.Performance and DeliveryMine Activity Design (Standards and Procedures):Responsible for all the block designs in the area of responsibility, giving cognizance to final pit design or phase design and latest geological information (MTM model).Regular block design discussions with the relevant stakeholders. Identify all infrastructure required to enable the plan.Do infrastructure design in a 3D environment, which includes power reticulation, surface haul roads, intersections, ramps, and water reticulation that will enable the deployment strategy.Maintain and update the MAD documents & meetingsMeet mining objectives by ensuring all planning designs & deployment strategies are up to date and aligned with the OMS & 12 Week Schedule.Ability to translate the deployment strategy graphically and give sufficient opportunity for all suggestionsAlign the deployment strategy with the design of the various phases and make sure all design aspects are included in the execution plan. Ability to identify when issues needs to be addressed by a different technical services department and inform and assist with the total solution.Analyze and report performance against MAD Designs (Reconciliation). Discuss/Highlight any ongoing problems, as well as recovery plans if not performing against plan. Provide recommendations for improvement and monitor any actions required to get back on plan. (Risks & Opportunities with an Action Plan)Weekly site visits are required with Schedulers to ensure alignment in terms of the deployment strategy and to identify future design requirements.Present and lead quarterly MAD meetings with MTS and operational personal.Do quarterly MAD reconciliation -- MPD vs MADIdentify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful planning & deployment strategies.Establish an A&I process to identify shortcomings and improve overall planning parameters; i.e. mining bottlenecks, optimal area development etc.Maintain and control planning standards & practices to comply with the necessary legislation, regulations internal policies, procedures – in terms of legal, environmental, occupational health and safety, and risk management standards and best practices. Follow all Signed-Off Parameters used in the MAD design processParticipate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadershipGood understanding of Anglo American plc and Kumba Iron Ore policies, procedures, standards and guidelinesKnowledge of the Mining Industry and relevant legislation including the Mine Health and Safety ActGood understanding of Opencast Iron Ore Mining and Beneficiation ProcessesGood knowledge of Planning office and design software processes and methodologiesThis role is in Technical & Integrated Planning (T&IP) NC department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the Section Manager Mine Activity Design Sishen & Kolomela)
QualificationsGrade 12 or equivalentNational Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalentB Tech /Degree in Mining EngineeringSA Drivers LicenceTechnical
Knowledge
3-5 years of experience in production, load, haul operations, mine planning, and pit layout.Strong understanding of mining engineering principles, including geology, geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, and mineral processing.Knowledge of relevant safety legislation (e.g., MHSA, Minerals and Energy Act).Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainable mining practices.Proficiency in mining methods (surface, underground, in-situ), equipment, and technology.Proficient knowledge in project management and financial analysis.An understanding of health, safety, and environmental stewardship principles.Additional InformationWho we are?
