Position Description:

Responsibilities:

Ability to identify mineralogy of process, open pit, and exploration samples. Understand refractory and double refractory gold ore characteristics and how they relate to processing. Provide timely plant support to understand and improve process behavior specifically relating to mineralogy. Investigate new ore bodies and develop and understanding of their response to pressure oxidation and roasting. Ability to understand and perform sample preparation for a variety of routine and non-routine mineral characterization projects Perform and develop mineral analysis procedures and techniques utilizing hardware and software specific to the reflected light microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), powder X-ray diffractometer (XRD), automated mineral liberation analysis (MLA/QEMSCAN). Ensure data integrity, compliance, and good laboratory practices by utilizing analytical methods, standard operating procedures and laboratory data systems. Perform and communicate sample preparation, analytical methodology and results to Senior Mineralogist. Perform complex analysis and provide meaningful results to clients. Write formal reports to technical staff with results and recommendations. Responsible for maintaining laboratory and associated equipment in a clean and safe manner. Liaison with exploration, operations, environmental, and process personnel both on-site and at a regional level. Promote, participate, and contribute to safety, environmental and social responsibilities culture. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Metallurgical Engineering, or equivalent related degree required Substantial experience with and knowledge of computer operation required Ability to work with common database, spreadsheet and word processing programs (Excel and MS Word) required Experience in creating project work orders, organizing and prioritizing work in a laboratory setting highly preferred Experience with Labware preferred Knowledge of advanced mineralogical techniques and analysis required Mineral identification experience highly preferred Direct experience with optical, XRD, SEM-EDS, and automated mineralogy systems highly preferred Familiarity with chemicals and laboratory procedures preferred Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize a heavy workload required Ability to work in an operations focused team environment required Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required Proven safety record and ability to support work group in achievements of safety, environmental, and production goals required Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this position required
