Job Description

As our Mine Operations Planning Engineer (Sishen & Kolomela) of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and EnvironmentConsistently apply safety and health principles in all site interactions within and beyond the site Supervisor's work area.Identify specific risks within the working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/systems to avoid these risks.Ensure mining plans and designs adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards and propose measures to mitigate potential risks.Performance and DeliveryMine Operations Planning:Meet mining objectives by ensuring all planning systems are up to date and aligned with the 12-month plan through continuous liaison with OMS specialists and alignment of deployment strategies.Ensure the 3-month mine plan has sufficient detail to construct weekly plans for loading and hauling, drilling and blasting, associated infrastructure work, waste dumping locations and spaces, and Mine Designs.Ensure that the monthly plan caters to the short-term HME capabilities, ore blending, and ore flow (crushing and stockpiling) of different material types and classes.Ensure plans are adjusted according to operating conditions, rain forecast, geological deviations, and plant needs, aligning with appropriate change management processes.Construct terms of reference to specify inputs into monthly plans – consult with different stakeholders to ensure realistic productivity assumptions.Identify and recommend opportunities to improve the short-term planning processes to minimise changes and maximise stability.Create plans following the Mine Health and Safety Act and the Mine’s regulations that are within budget and direct mine production activities to achieve short-term targets.Review the plan design with mine production and ensure that the plan tonnages, quality, rehabilitation, and safety comply with longer-term plans.The Work: Key Outputs and AccountabilitiesPartakes in reconciliation processes by releasing quality and reconcilable plans and contributing towards the gathering process.Ensure that infrastructure planning is aligned with shorter-term plans (including road positioning, electrical and water networks).Attend pit visits and all other meetings necessary to channel the operation back to the 3-month plan.Undertake tasks as assigned on implementing the Anglo Operating Model in Operational Mine Planning.Data management and validation:Analyse & ensure that the generated output path is aligned with the inputs provided in the input meeting.Consider the impacts of operational challenges on output rates presented in input meetings and be able to challenge them.QAQC:Change management & tracking of block shape change request and their alignment with Master Survey Layout.Ad-Hoc Projects:Support the section Manager Mine Planning to evaluate Ad-hoc projects and new technology.

 

This role is in the Technical & Integrated Planning (T&IP) NC discipline at a 6.11 level reporting to Section Manager MT Planning

QualificationsNational Diploma in Mining EngineeringBTech/BSc/BEng AdvantageousSA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

Specialized knowledge in Mining Engineering, including mineral extraction, mine design, and geotechnical engineering.Familiarity with relevant legislation, such as MHSA, to ensure compliance and safety within the mining environment.Proficiency in project management, planning/scheduling, and understanding of the unique challenges faced in mining.Ability to apply the mine planning cycle, including exploration, design, construction, and operations.Understanding of financial metrics, budgeting tools, and cost analysis.Knowledge of risk management techniques and critical controls, including hazard identification and mitigation strategies.Awareness of safety, health, and environmental requirements and compliance standards.

Proficiency in mine scheduling software, such as OPMS, Deswik, Xecure, and MicroStation, for effective mine planning and scheduling.
