Basic Job Functions:

The responsibilities of the Mill I Cooling Bed Inspector include, but are not limited to, inspecting product using ASTM-A6 and in house quality standards. The Cooling Bed Inspector must be able to communicate defects and out of tolerance conditions to the rolling mill and finishing personnel. Further responsibilities include straightener roll building for product orders, which includes operation of forklift and use of precision measuring tools and function as relief operator for the Hot Saw and Straightener operators when needed. The Cooling Bed Inspector is expected to cut scrap bars using a cutting torch, and assist in maintaining the equipment in the finishing bay using small tools. The Cooling Bed Inspector must be able to run Cranes #9, #10, #49, and #50 for maintenance work and roll changes. This position must obtain forklift training within the first 30 days in job, as well as, obtain basic rigging and overhead crane certification within the first 90 days; certifications must be maintained throughout job. The Cooling Bed Inspector will work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Preferences:

Previous NYS 1 finishing experience

Knowledge of product tracking system

Working knowledge of NYS 1 finishing and rolling process

Previous Overhead crane experience

Torch Training

Basic rigging and/ or forklift certification
