Weston & Sampson is seeking a full-time mid-level Wetland Scientist/Permitting Specialist who is experienced in wetland delineation and assessment, and regulatory permitting to support our ecological/permitting group in our Reading, MA office. The candidate will support multiple projects simultaneously and will have the opportunity to represent the company and our clients at public meetings, workshops, and meetings with federal, state, and local agencies, and meetings with other stakeholders in conjunction with permit application review. The candidate will support fieldwork efforts for wetland delineations, wildlife habitat assessments, vernal pool surveys, and construction monitoring/oversight.
What you’ll do:
Preparation of federal, state, and local environmental permit applications and technical reports, including MA Wetlands Protection Act, Section 401/404 Permitting, Chapter 91 Waterways and MEPA/NEPA submittalsManagement of medium to large scale projects, understand and apply environmental regulations, develop schedules and budgets, mentor staff and communicate clearly and effectively to the public and clientsConduct wetland resource area delineations, wetland mitigation site design, construction period erosion and sediment control inspections and reportingConduct environmental monitoring and mitigation to ensure consistent documentation and compliance with environmental requirements of permits/licensesWhat you will bring:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental/wetland science, biology, ecology, geology, engineering, planning, or related physical sciences disciple; Master’s degree preferred3-10+ years of relevant professional experience in environmental permitting or consultingUnderstanding of federal, state and local environmental regulationsExceptional writing and oral communication skillsProven ability to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously as part of a multidisciplinary project teamWillingness to travel (both in state and out of state in the northeast), prepare for and participate in public hearingsExperience utilizing GPS equipment preferredExperience with ArcMAP or ArcPRO GIS software preferred
