We support customers with Centers of Excellence in Washington DC, Huntsville, AL and Burlington, MA with an additional 36 locations across the U.S. Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Intern located at the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL. This individual will conduct experiments on using plasma activated water to cultivate mushrooms under International Space Station (ISS)- like conditions. The intern will work independently (with guidance from mentor) in the Plant Processing Area (PPA) to cultivate the mushrooms as well as in the Applied Chemistry Laboratory (ACL) to conduct research on the various Plasma Activated Water (PAW). This position generally functions in one or more of the following activities: Experiment materials preparation and set-up specific to the cultivation of mushrooms under varied conditions; microbiological sample processing and data collection; and report preparation. This position works with NASA Principle Investigator. JOB DETAILS LOCATION: Kennedy Space Center, FL JOB STATUS: Part Time TRAVEL: No REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS High school diploma, with some college course/lab work in biology/microbiology preferred. U.S. Citizenship is required DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS Must be dependable and accountable. Good communication skills, attention to detail and record keeping. Ability to take direction and work independently with appropriate training. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment. Willingness to learn new techniques and perform them satisfactorily.
