The Opportunity

This position works out of our St. Paul, MN location in the Structural Heart division. Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of structural heart disease.

As the Microbiologist II, you'll be responsible for the microbiological concepts to the manufacturing process of a medical device and understanding process monitoring to maintain microbiological quality of the final device. 

What You’ll Work On

Supports product development teams through coordination and execution of sterilization validations and product microbiological test methods.

Performs sterilization feasibility assessments related to various sterilization modalities including ethylene oxide, steam, radiation, liquid chemical, and alternative gases.

Provides technical support for facility issues in the areas of, environmental monitoring and microbiological methods, conducts routine out of specification investigations.

Assess manufacturing process changes for microbial impact.

Completes routine controlled product microbiological reports.

Technical sterilization and microbiological laboratory methods support, including but not limited to; data analysis of sterilization processes, and writes protocols and reports for re-qualifications for sterilization and microbiological test methods.

Documentation: Ensures correct documentation linkage flow for microbiologically related documents.

Writes new or updates current microbiologically related documents. Maintains understanding of applicable standards.

Writes protocols and reports for qualifications for sterilization and microbiological test methods.

Performs or oversees validations for new technologies, equipment, and/or test methods; and creates documentation for implementation.

Quality Support: Provide departmental support for quality activities including investigations, out of specification evaluations, NCMRs, and CAPAs.

Technical Training: Provides training to operations employees on new or revised equipment and/or procedures. Provides training in the areas of sterilization validation and sterilization processes.

Required Qualifications

BS degree with 4 years in medical device/pharmaceutical, or related industry experience

Experience in microbiology and/or sterilization and relevant microbiology laboratory experience

Demonstrates professional skills with excellent written communication

Demonstrated excellent troubleshooting skills in routine out of specification situations

Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

 Multitasks, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in timely manner

Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail

Ability to travel approximately 5-10%, including internationally

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years medical device/pharmaceutical or related industry experience

Master's degree, 2 years medical device/pharmaceutical or related industry experience

Experience in microbiology and/or sterilization (Ethylene Oxide, Steam, Radiation and Liquid Chemical) and relevant microbiology laboratory experience (Bioburden, Bacterial Endotoxin, Sterility, etc.)

Corrective action/preventative action experience

Project management experience

The base pay for this position is $60,000.00 – $120,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
