Job Description:
As an Interface Manager, function in a pivotal role as the primary liaison between Fluor, clients, and third parties for all non-Fluor furnished services. Responsibilities will encompass essential project and engineering management duties, emphasizing the establishment of an execution framework that aligns with interface management responsibilities, safety, and quality.
The purpose of this position is to plan and perform work requiring sound technical/business judgment in the evaluation, organization, and execution of project management assignments worldwide. This role has the overall objective of managing and/or coordinating project activities that are in compliance with the contract and ensure the safety, quality, value, timeliness, and Fluor profitability of the completed project. This position may assume Project Engineer, Area Project Manager or Engineering management job assignment responsibilities on a large size project, multiple medium size projects or complex segment of a larger project, in compliance with the project needs and per directions provided by a Project Director, Project Manager or the Engineering Manager.
Interface management in projects is crucial for ensuring different components of a project work together seamlessly. This project and engineering management sub-specialty focuses on managing the interactions between various project scopes, which might include different systems, teams, or stakeholders.
A quick overview of this sub-specialty includes:
• Defining Interfaces: This involves identifying and defining the points of interaction between different components of the scope, in all phases of execution. An example is the physical interface between an electrical substation and mechanical equipment designed by two different stakeholders, and later, installed in construction by two separate stakeholders.
• Coordination and Communication: Ensuring that there is clear communication and coordination between relevant systems, disciplines, or stakeholders. This involves regular meetings, clear actions and follow-up, detailed documentation, and the use of collaborative tools.
• Resolution of Conflicts: Interface management includes resolving conflicts that arise from overlapping work or misalignments between different scopes of the project. This can involve mediation and adjustments to plans or schedules.
• Documentation: Creating and maintaining detailed records of how physical and soft interfaces are identified, managed, and closed is important. This documentation helps in understanding the flow of the project and is crucial for resolving any disputes that may arise.
• Risk Management: Proactively identifying and managing risks associated with interfaces can mitigate or prevent delays and cost overruns. This involves anticipating potential issues and planning mitigation strategies. Effective interface coordination and management can help in reducing project risks, improving efficiency, and ensuring that the project is completed on time and within budget.
Skills and Attributes:
• Proactive and goal-oriented with the initiative to positively influence events.
• Proficient in problem-solving, particularly in complex project or business environments.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify potential solutions.
• Technical and business writing proficiency.
• Adept computer and software skills including word processing, spreadsheets, analytics/reporting development, and developing and delivering presentations.
• Adept with workflow processing tools such as Microsoft Power Automate and leveraging project information management systems such as Aconex or Kahua. Preferably, experience with business intelligence tools (i.e. Microsoft PowerBI).
• Must demonstrate a proven, consistent track record to establish and maintain high standards of a self-performance, responsibility, and accountability for successfully completing assignments and tasks.
• Set and maintain high standards for project interface management in terms of quality, timeliness, and overall success.
Additional Considerations:
• International project or area management experience in diverse cultural environments is highly valued.
• Emphasis on diversity and inclusion initiatives within engineering and project management.
