Job Summary
The Mentor Coordinator will hire, recruit, and manage program mentors and volunteers for the Project Ready Mentor program; plan and assign mentors to students; maintain program records; act as a team lead for mentors and volunteers; participate and manage the program advisory board; and complete program reports and other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
+ Act as the team leader for all Project Ready Mentor and program mentors/volunteers including assisting program staff in the other components with program implementation.
+ Hire, recruit, and onboard program mentors in accordance with the National Urban League standards
+ Pair mentors with students and manage mentorship activities/scheduling.
+ Oversight of the Project Ready Mentor advisory board; including recruitment, attending meetings, and documenting meeting notes
+ Plan and implement mentor events involving guest speakers, field trips, high school workshops and creative engaging enrichments activities aimed at strengthening math and reading skills.
+ Assist mentors/volunteers review youth’s Individual College Preparation Plans, and periodically review and revise these plans to reflect changes in the youths’ academic situations.
+ Provide case management and counseling to participants to help address any unmet needs of the youth and their families.
+ Administer assessments and assist with the tracking of participants’ outcomes.
+ Under the direction of the Vice President or Director, monitor the program’s progress towards goals and develop plans for corrective action as required.
+ Complete records and reports to track and assure successful program outcomes.
+ Participant in webinars, trainings and other scheduled events as required by the National Urban League.
+ Participate in training and orientation as required and approved by the VP or Director for effective program operation.
+ Approve staff timecards and disciplinary actions.
+ Develop and support enhancements to the program and department.
+ Perform such duties as the supervisor may assign.
+ Attend/support Urban League of Rochester events and fund raising functions
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in education, STEAM, human services, social work or related field required, Master’s degree preferred
+ Experience working with youth in an educational setting, STEAM curriculum and/or teaching experience is a plus.
+ Experience using online platforms including but not limited to: Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Office, etc.
+ Proven ability to make presentations and lead trainings to large groups.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to relate well and understand the barriers of minority and underrepresented youth, mainly from the inner city.
+ Ability to function effectively as part of a team.
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
+ Knowledge of community resources youth and families is a plus.
+ Ability to interface with external partners and community partners.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple, competing tasks and demands.
+ Flexible schedule required; must be available past 5:00PM on weekdays and work occasional Saturdays.
+ Access to reliable transportation
+ Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
