The Marshall Intern Program seeks to support the development of high quality, student-centered teachers, increase the diversity of the teacher workforce, and provide a model for a high quality, supportive intern program. The intern program is a two year credentialing program for intern teachers of record, who are completing credentialing coursework leading to a California Multiple Subject or Single Subject Preliminary Teaching Credential. The Marshall Intern Program builds on the work of the Marshall Teacher Residency with a focus on supporting teacher candidates who already have significant experience in instructional roles at schools within Marshall’s partner network. The Marshall Intern Program is preparing to launch the first cohort of intern teachers in June 2025 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Marshall Teacher Residency has a track record of success over the past eight years, and the Marshall Intern Program is designed to adapt the residency program curriculum and model to support the specific needs of intern teachers. The Mentor for the Marshall Intern Program brings expertise in secondary and/or elementary education, and experience supporting early career teachers, to shape the intern program curriculum and clinical experience to successfully launch this new program. Intern candidates receive support from both an on-site Mentor (an experienced teacher at the same school site) and the Intern Program Mentor. The Intern Program Mentor plays the role of both an instructor and coach. As an instructor, the Intern Program Mentor facilitates the coursework learning experiences for all intern candidates, while also providing feedback on and assessing their credentialing coursework. The Intern Program Mentor also observes and coaches the intern candidates both in-person and through video.
