Mental Health Specialist - Full Time

The Mental Health Specialist for the hospital and community-based violence intervention program is responsible for the daily operations of programs and services provided under the Project HEAL department (Project HEAL and Elevate). These programs provide wraparound, trauma-informed care to adult survivors of violence and youth at-risk of engaging in violence. **Responsibilities** A day in the life of a Mental Health Specialist at Hackensack Meridian _Health_ includes: 1. Performs bedside intakes with victims of violence treated at the hospital after injury. Provides immediate support, safety planning and resources at the hospital bedside. 2. Provides referrals and intensive case management services for program participants (and their families, if applicable) in an outpatient setting. 3. Maintains intensive follow-up contact with participants, their families, and other service providers involved in their care through home visits, telephone contact, and visits in the community. 4. Accompanies participants to community/medical appointments for assistance, support and advocacy and/or stores to provide emergency aid. 5. Participate in weekly staff meetings, professional development/training, and team building activities 6. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 7. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. **Qualifications** Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or related area 2. At least 2 years experience providing case management services 3. Ability to work well with diverse populations 4. Strong organizational skills 5. Willingness and ability to work one or two evenings per week until 7pm or 8pm., some weekends possible 6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 7. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. Applicants with personal experience in overcoming violence/violence-related injuries/the criminal justice system are encouraged to apply 2. Knowledge of Monmouth and/or Ocean County social services 3. Knowledge of urban violence and community issues/needs 4.
