Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory procedures using standard and specialized techniques, instrumentation, and equipment on a wide variety of biological specimens to assist the provider in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. To exercise professional judgment to recognize, prioritize, and facilitate varying test requests and workload in an efficient manner. To assume responsibility and accountability for accuracy of procedures performed.
Department Summary:
The Massillon Laboratory provides clinical testing in the areas of hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and molecular. Primary testing clients include the Emergency Department, as well as Aultman Health System outpatients and Aultman Laboratory Services Clients. This predominately automated clinical laboratory offers an essential test menu and performs close to 50,000 tests a year.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree, including twelve-month training in an approved program for Medical Laboratory Science, with certification or certification eligible as a Clinical Lab Scientist by an approved certifying agency. Willingness and ability to fill the CLIA role of General Supervisor and Technical Consultant as defined by CAP. Prior experience is preferred but not required.Department Specific Qualifications:

Responsibilities & Expectations:
Maintain competence in the following testing areas: Chemistry Coagulation Hematology Specimen Processing Urinalysis Molecular Receive and process laboratory specimens. Successfully operates instrumentation in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Performs testing and quality control using approved laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Exercise professional judgment to recognize, prioritize and facilitate varying test requests and workload in an efficient manner. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department meetings as required. Perform instrument/equipment maintenance according to department guidelines and manufacturer's specifications. Mentor students and new employees by providing a positive experiential learning environment. Is aware of and adheres to regulatory guidelines. Assist Technical Specialists and Laboratory Coordinator with duties as assigned. Think critically and work efficiently in high stress situations Communicate effectively with colleagues, nursing units, providers, and laboratory leadership. Uses Tools and Tones for High Reliability in order to promote a culture of safety. Accepts responsibilities and maintains an attitude conducive to a cooperative and productive work environment. Work eight to twelve hours a day. This unit requires 24/7 coverage. Shifts are variable to volume of department. Rotation as needed. Work weekends and holidays as assigned. Lunch periods and breaks are communicated with Emergency Department staff. Fit testing is required.Department Specific Working Conditions:
