The Medical Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring smooth patient check-in and check-out processes and maintaining accurate patient records and accounts. This role helps maintain patient flow, provides positive patient relations, and supports healthcare providers in delivering high-quality care. Additionally, the specialist assists with patient rooming, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks, appointment scheduling, and chart management.
Responsibilities
+ Assist healthcare providers with clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, and conducting basic medical tests and procedures.
+ Set up instruments and equipment according to departmental guidelines and ensure exam/procedure rooms are cleaned and restocked to maintain infection control standards.
+ Greet patients, assist with check-in procedures, and gather necessary medical history and insurance information.
+ Prepare the clinic for daily operations by reviewing the facility, opening system applications, and preparing new patient registration packets and required documents.
+ Register patients, update records, and verify insurance details accurately and in a timely manner.
+ Respond promptly to patient inquiries, assist with follow-up appointments, and fulfill medical documentation requests.
+ Schedule appointments, answer phone calls, and provide general patient information.
+ Complete end-of-day procedures, including preparing closing documentation and submitting required reports.
+ Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance of patient records, including electronic health records (EHR) and paper files.
+ Oversee medical supplies and equipment, ensuring appropriate stock levels and proper storage.
+ Coordinate maintenance and repairs for medical equipment as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
+ Medical Assistant Certificate.
+ High school diploma or equivalent required.
+ Medical Terminology knowledge.
+ Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
+ Strong computer skills.
+ Strong phone etiquette.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous medical office experience preferred.
+ Basic knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office applications.
+ High attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Biology majors or Pre-RN candidates preferred.
+ CPR certification.
Work Environment
Multi-specialty medical practice (Pulmonology, Internal Medicine, Sleep Clinic). The environment is family-oriented, with a tight-knit and welcoming team. All providers are partners, deeply invested in the success of the practice, and eager to teach. They prefer candidates eager to learn who are interested in understanding the rationale behind medical procedures. The practice consists of 13 partners/owners, including 3 Hospitalists, 6 Pulmonologists, 3 Concierge doctors, 1 Internal Medicine specialist, and 15 Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs).
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43680.00 - $46800.00/yr.
