Medical Secretary

**This is a fast paced-environment, must be able to multitask and handle the workload as we are the gatekeepers to the hospital. 90% of the admissions to the hospital come from the ED.**

 

SUMMARY

The Medical Secretary provides administrative and clerical support for Emergency Department functions, to include physician orders, physician referrals, chart maintenance, admissions, transfers and discharges; serves as a patient advocate; and performs hospital/ community liaison activities of the ED and ED Observation. Functions in a fast paced, high stress environment requiring multiple critical success skills, including customer service, clerical skills and the performance of several ED patient-related activities. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.  Medical terminology;  familiarity with ancillary tests.

Preferred Experience:  One year current hospital or medical office experience preferred.  Ability to type 35 wpm.
