Medical Record Clerk
+ Job Summary: The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for managing and maintaining patient medical records in compliance with organizational policies and federal regulations. This position ensures that records are accurate, updated, and securely stored while supporting healthcare professionals by providing access to vital patient information when needed. Key Responsibilities: + Record Maintenance: Organize, file, and retrieve medical records (physical or electronic) following established protocols. + Data Entry: Accurately input patient information into the electronic health records (EHR) system. + Records Requests: Process requests for patient records from authorized parties, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations. + Auditing: Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with healthcare regulations. + Communication: Collaborate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to ensure timely access to patient information. + Security: Ensure all patient information is handled with the utmost confidentiality and stored securely to protect privacy. + Archiving: Archive old records in line with retention policies and dispose of outdated records per legal guidelines. + Problem-Solving: Address discrepancies, missing documentation, or inconsistencies in records. + Qualifications: + High school diploma or equivalent (GED); an associate’s degree in Health Information Management is a plus. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or Meditech). + Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations. + Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. + Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. + Effective communication skills for working with medical staff and other team members. + Work Environment: + Office or hospital setting, with some tasks performed in filing rooms or storage areas. + May require sitting for long periods and occasionally lifting or moving files.
