**Responsibilities:**
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under the direction and supervision of laboratory leadership at all times and with some latitude to work independently, provides specialized testing and support for the laboratory section. Performs complex technical assignments, which are clearly outlined and require a proficient level of theoretical insight and interpretation. Exercises a moderate degree of skill and judgment and an understanding of the principles and methodologies of laboratory science. Responsible for instrument maintenance/standardization, daily quality control and adherence to all policies (Hospital and Laboratory). Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Performs and interprets routine Blood Bank tests, including ABO/Rh typing, direct and indirect antiglobulin tests, crossmatches, transfusion reaction workups, fetal screen and Kleihauer-Betke stains.
+ Performs circulator duties, including logging in of specimens, checking patient computer files, prioritizing and triaging work, component preparation, component issue, answering phones, and other miscellaneous tasks.
+ Rejuvenates, freezes, deglycerolizes, washes, pools, and thaws specimen. Completes corresponding paperwork.
+ Performs daily reagent quality control and participates in equipment quality control and preventative maintenance.
+ Performs serologic testing to assist in the identification of antibodies, using routine antibody panels and reference procedures, including the use of enzymes, synsorbs, absorptions/elutions, antibody titrations, antigen screening and other specialized tests. Interprets testing and identifies specific antibodies performed by a technologist or supervisor.
+ Performs irradiation of blood products.
+ Performs retypes on units received from other facilities, processes and inputs products into inventory, monitors inventory levels for appropriateness and orders additional products if necessary.
+ Participates in stocking supplies, cleaning general lab areas, and answering phones when designated individual is unable.

**MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
+ Associate's degree in Medical Technology required or
+ Associate's degree in a natural science, or a clinical laboratory science and coursework acceptable to NYSED required
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
**LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS**
+ Clinical Laboratory Technician NYS licensure upon hire required
