**Responsibilities:**
GENERAL SUMMARY
Perform medical office clerical and technical duties. Greet, direct and assist patients, visitors and other members of the University community. Inform patients and others of departmental and University policies and procedures. Answer telephone, take messages, register patients, schedule appointments, sign in, check out and bill patients for their visit or supplies. Take and record vital signs, document medical information, complete medical forms and requisitions, stock and clean examination rooms, perform various diagnostic and lab procedures. Maintain a working knowledge of standard procedures at both the Medical Center and the River Campus Offices.
Perform diagnostic laboratory practice at UHS, including phlebotomy, waived testing, logging, transport, and tracking of test specimens and test results for UHS patients. Follow infection control, patient identification, HIPAA and emergency management policies and procedures. Promote laboratory service coverage through teamwork and good communication skills. Excellent patient rapport and customer service. This is a part-time position with the option of summer furlough. Seasonal transition dates will be determined based on business needs.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Process patients from waiting room to lab.. Complete corresponding electronic health record, including required forms, labels and orders. Inform patients and providers of delays.
+ Collect blood specimens for clinical laboratory testing, by venipuncture and finger stick, with excellent customer service skills, including associated computer order entry and review. Perform all UHS laboratory tests including urine dipsticks, stool occult blood, blood glucose, urine pregnancy, Monospot, Rapid Strep and Oral HIV.
+ Perform and review test of quality assurance including daily QC, instrument calibration, temperatures, and proficiency testing. Participate in continuous performance improvement activities. Maintain reagents and materials for testing, stock supplies and perform routine lab environmental maintenance
+ Participate in accreditation review and compliance, patient safety, emergency preparedness, flu clinics, billing, mailings, health promotion events and other, similar team office activities. Maintain competence in medical office and laboratory procedures. Attend staff meetings and read UHS minutes to keep abreast of operational and policy details and changes. Follow all infection control, HIPAA, patient safety and emergency preparedness protocols, practices and procedures as required for the job, including effective hand washing and confirming two elements of patient identification at all times

**QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, MLT(ASCP) certification, and NYS Licensure required required.
+ CPR certification, Medical terminology preferred.
