Job Description

The Medical Lab Scientist II in the Special Chemistry Department will be responsible for the testing of assigned specimens on the Day shift with rotational weekends. This role involves sample extraction using manual pipetting techniques, Tecan, and other automated technology. The scientist will perform manual data reviews of calibrations, QC, and chromatography, as well as testing and troubleshooting using department instruments and procedures. Support for quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects is also required.

ResponsibilitiesPerform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ensuring quality control requirements are met.Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test results records.Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time for results, including STATS or critical results.Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable, opened dates.Perform and document QC analysis to ensure the accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Make quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition.Appropriately escalate problems associated with test procedures.Report any actual or potential deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate fully with any investigations.Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting to physicians.Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed by management.Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.Essential SkillsASCP or C (ASCP) certification (required)Bachelor's degree in a Science discipline, preferably Chemistry or Medical Lab Science1 year of clinical lab experience, preferably in Chemistry, but can be a generalistAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience with chemistry, laboratory procedures, clinical laboratory protocols, CLIA regulations, gas chromatography, and liquid chromatographyWork Environment

Clinical Lab Environment - very busy with increasing volume. Day shift: Monday - Friday 10 AM - 6:30 PM with rotational weekends. Weekend differential: 10% on weekends. The lab adheres to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety requirements. Personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls are used as directed by management.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $68640.00 - $79040.00/yr.
